You can get decent Bosch 02 sensors at Advance Auto Parts (Checker Auto Parts, Schuck's Auto Supply and Kragen Auto Parts should also have them).

The sensors for the 1989 are the Bosch 13942 fo $44.99 each from AutoZone, however, if both sensors are producing rich codes, the engine is probably running rich. If the sensors are more than 60,000 miles old, they should be replaced. Don't be surprised if you continue to get new CE light illuminations and rich codes (what codes exactly?).

Have there been any changes made to the engine such as replaced parts or service work done to initiate the rich condition?

I actually have a question about that too, would not having any cats make the car run rich too, cause ive had people behind me say that when i get on the gas there's a wonderful black cloud coming from my car and it reaks of gas? and if so, what fixes this? other than replacing the o2 sensors?

O2 sensors look at what is coming out to tell PCM to lean or richen it up,an input for PCM.Things that can cause a rich condition (Fuel Pressure to high,Mass Air flow,Baro,PCM...ect)I would check these first. :thumb: later

Im not sure if running without cats makes you rich or lean (I would guess lean though.) Without cats you will get that smoke screen when you get on it due to it not being burned off in the cats. The fix is to get cats, although you may still get a little smoke screen even with them.

You can get a rich condition if the coolant temperature sensor is not functioning. Note this is not the temperature sending unit that feeds the temperature gauge.

You may also get a rich condition from a dirty air cleaner, poor ignition (plugs or plug wires, weak spark), clogged fuel injectors that are not metering properly and/or fuel not being properly regulated.

Is the line that carries excess fuel back to the tank clear of obstruction? Is the canister purge system working properly?

The lack of cats should not cause a rich condition. The exaust gas already exsists before it gets to the cats.
