O2 sensor - Gas mileage improvement?

I'm not sure what to think of this mileage thing.
My car has 160k on it, only one 60k done, new plugs & wires, cleaned injectors, cleand tb, and it burns a good amount of oil. I get 23mpg usually, but I ocasionally get 25mpg.
Your car should definitly do better than 18mpg.

The magnitude of your miles per gallon of fuel is inversely proportional to the travel of your gas pedal. Mileage around town in the upper teens is quite good. This same figure would be bad on the open highway. I can get anywhere from 12 mpg to 27 mpg with my car. The difference is the amount of pressure on the gas pedal that I use.

Don't forget about tire pressure. When off by just a bit, it will decrease milage.

I am usually getting high teens around town and as high as 33mp(us)g on the highway at about 70mph.

are u sure you are figuring it right. I know mine was all screwed up the first couple times cuz the damn owners manual says the tank is 18.4 gallons oh_my !!!!!! I drove till E and filled it up to F and saw it is about 15. I get much better mileage thumbs_u . hahaha

Found this un-scientific quibb from the net...

" Check your tire pressure. Believe it or not, this will drag your car down and make it work harder. Again, from Shade Tree mechanic, every two psi your tire pressure is low you lose 1 mpg."

Sound about right from what I've heard before.

I would run 93 oct...It keeps the engine cleaner, burns cleaner and better for high revs

87 would be better for strictly mileage concerns. And I question the "burns cleaner" and "keeps the engine cleaner," most of the different brands use a similar additive package in all grades of fuel, obviously there are exceptions. Not sure about better for high revs, considering that the ECM can pull all the timing it wants. Obviously the car would have a bit more power if it didn't retard the timing as much, but running lower octane shouldn't necessarily hurt anything. I do it because I don't race my car, I drive it around town a bit and on the highway regularly, it gets better mileage with 87.

how do you change o2 sensors and where could i get the parts from? i get around 22-24 mpg city/highway mix. i haven't had a full road trip but i figured O2 sensors help mileage.

Wow, somebody brought this back from the dead!

Changing O2 sensors is easy. They screw into your Y-pipe, one before and one after the cat converter. The hard part is unscrewing them. All the years of heat, mud, rust, etc, make them a PITA sometimes, depending where your from.
