Now my SHO wont start after stalling, good grief...

This morning I fired up my SHO let it idle for a few seconds, and went to pull off. I accidentally stalled. Now the d@mn car wont start back up. It turns and turns and turns, but it will not start. My car has been hard to start a few times, but I always started so I never figured it to be a big issue. Do you think it's the starter?

This is TERRIBLE timing as I was going to drive it to NY this weekend. I'm hoping maybe its just flooded and will fire up when I get home from work. I can hear the fuel pump priming when I turn the key, and all power options work just fine. Would a bad starter still turn? I hope thats all it is, is it an easy fix? HELP!!!!

If the engine is turning, it is not the starter.

Try pulling codes. That is always the first step to figure out this kind of thing. If there are no codes, you probably have a loose connection somewhere, possibly at the throttle position sensor, but it could be any number of places.

If you don't know how to pull the codes, just do a search here on pulling codes, and you will get tons of information on the procedure, which only requires a paper clip if you are cheap...or an inexpensive code reader if you want to go that route.

Have you tried the pumping or holding the gas pedal while cranking? Maybe the IAB is not opening or you flooded the car.

Thanks guys. I have a code reader, so I'll pull them when I get home. I didnt try the pumping or holding the gas technique. I PRAY it's only flooded and will crank when i get home. Please post any other advice and I'll report back this afternoon.

If you think your car is flooded, press the gas pedal all the way to the floor, and hold it there. Flooring the gas cuts off the fuel injectors. Like stated before, pull the codes first.

My 93 3.0 ranger was a PIG when it was cold. If you killed it by accident it would do the same thing, no start. Just hold the pedal to the floor and you'll be in business. But by the time you get home you won't neet to do that.

Yes you will. My SHO sat for a week+ from me trying to figure out why it wouldnt start. Finally, Paul said to hold the pedal...and after about 15-20 seconds it fired up.

This is a BIG help guys, thanks again. I wont be able to try it until about 5pm EST, but any idea what causes this? Is it a sign that something is failing? I havent driven the car in a week or so, and it has been somewhat frigid here during some points in the last week. Should I look forward to replacing something?

Thanks a million guys, she fired up when I got home. I tried it without the accelerator first and she sounded like she wanted to jump on, but she just turned and turned. I mashed the gas down and turned the key...after about 4 secs she started. There was quite a pungent gas smell in the ait after she started idling right. SO, any idea on whats getting ready to go or why this happened?

Mine has done it twice so far. Both times it was because I started the car, ran it for a very short period of time (like 15-20 seconds) and then shutting it off. (I was moving it out of the way to get the mustang out of the garage. )

Paul Nimz (dont remember his name on the forum here) told me that the SHO will flood sometimes if ran for a very short period of time and causes this condition. The 1st time it happened to me was about 6 months or so ago I think. To this day, no problem.

I would agree with you on any other gas powered vehicle that if left, the "flooded" state goes away. For some reason, with the SHO, that dont happen. Dont know why...but I have been through it twice.

You probably have a leaking fuel injector(s).

If the car is flooded it will stay that way as the TB and IAC are both closed when the engine is off.

My SHO will do that if you stall it. It won't restart unless you pin the accelerator to cut off the injectors. Apparently, the ECU dumps all kinds of fuel in the motor to keep it running if it thinks it's going to stall, so then when it finally stalls you can't restart because it's flooded.

That makes perfect sence. Now just tell that to the guy behind me in the intersection, honking his horn and wondering what the **** I'm doing since the light is green and all the other cars are long gone...all because I forgot I was in 3rd. DOH!
