Hey gang.I read your posts everyday and read that the SHO is pretty darn quick for the big bubba body it has.My 91 does'nt seem to run that fast. It's fast, but fast enough to take on GT mustangs???I think not.I have done most of the 60K stuff last summer(all but shims)I hate that I did'nt do the shims(will get 'em this spring)Would the lack of shim service hold the power back like that?I change oil every 3,000,keep an eye on all the bugs that pop up.I think I'm maintaining it well.I have cleaned my intake VERY good.Had it dunked and bead blasted.Point me in a direction to look for problems.

Thanks for the help

If your car doesn't run with GT mustangs don't think there is something wrong. Mustangs are typically faster. As far as performance, just make sure you have no codes stored and that there are no exhaust restrictions. Possibly have iut dyno'd to see what power you are actually making.

hey neighbor,
Air Cooled Classics (west Knoxville) will give you 3 runs on the dyno for $50. It will at least let you know for sure where you stand. (Maybe there is another dyno closer to you??)
My old 90 with a catless Y pipe and FULL 60K got like 165 HP and 170 ftlbs. TQ. oh It also ran a 10.2 in the 1/8 mile. (Knoxville Dragway-- let me know if you ever want to run there thumb )
Here's my advice:
disconnect the Y pipe from the catback, and leave one bolt in holding it up so it doesn't drag the ground... but make sure the exhaust is exiting out of the Y pipe! Go on a lonely backroad and take off, if you feel a NOTICEABLE difference ABOVE 3500 rpms, then your catback has blockage. Be careful, as it will be deafening loud naughty
Also, my sho used a good amount of oil. Does yours? If so, this could possibly be a culprit as well...???
Good luck...

Hey Dave! Are you from Knoxville?Thats only an hour away.I have thought about the exhaust too.I may just try what you said.It will use maybe a quart-quart and 1/2 evry 3,000 miles. It has 200,000 miles though so maybe thats not too bad shrug
Hey it's cool to have someone close.Maybe I'll check that dyno?

The lack of a recent valve gap adjustment should not make a noticeable effect on the power output. Go too long and the cam lobe damage will take your engine down hard. The valve gapping adjustment is a preventative maintenance service that is designed to maintain the engine at its optimum and allow it to do it for as long as possible.

Unless you have a dyno output to verify that your engine is not at its peak, I wouldn't lose sleep just because you couldn't keep up with Mustang GTs. The SHO should keep up with older GTs on the street and pull them on the highway. The newer Mustang GT with its 260 hp, however, will definitely make you feel like you are driving the 4-door that you are.

I know the problem...

The hail Ford Falcon sedan (FPV) with the V8 and 6-speed is NOT available in the States!!! Those lucky Aussie bstards get a slick, quick, 4 door, RWD sedan with it's OWN RACE SERIES (against the GM/Holdens) and the country where Fords were born DOESN'T! rant

I wish I could have one! Just imagine...it could be the "new" SHO! thumb
