Is this a junkyard engine you put in the car? I had the exact same thing happen to me. I bought a junkyard engine and apparently it had sat in their warehouse for many years. When I installed it, it cranked fine but wouldn't fire. So I sprayed gas into the intake and it would fire up and die. So I probed all the injectors with a test light and they were receiving electrical pulses. So that meant the injectors were not firing. I removed them and upon close inspection, all 6 were plugged solid with crystallized(dried up) fuel. The solution was to send them to a fuel injection specialist and have them sonically and chemically cleaned. Cost was about $100 and the engine fired right up after I put them back in.

man that is exactly what mine is doing. it is a junk yard engine and if i spray fuel in the throttle body it will try to start off of just what i sprayed in the body. the guy at the junk yard said it may be hard to start because on the injectors. really didnt know what he was talking about. now i see. so i need to go back to that junkyard and see if i can get my old injectors off my core. i dont really want to have these cleaned and that not fix it plus spend anymore money on it. so if you dont mind please explain a little more about how to test the injectors. iam going tommorow to see about getting the old injectors. will i need any gaskets to take the intake off to get to the injectors? thanks for your help

There's no real way to test the injectors by yourself. You can probe the electrical connecters on each injector and make sure there is electrical pulses there while cranking the engine. That atleast eliminates the possibility of a wiring problem.

Once you have the injectors out, you should be able to see the dried up gas in the inlets. The intake gaskets can usually be reused as well as the injector o-rings. But if any of them are damaged during removal, you'll need new ones. When you go to put the injectors back in, apply a small amount of oil to the o-rings so they will slide into the fuel rail easier.
