What I see in this motor, is a gasoline burning, turbo diesel fighter.

Writing is on the wall for diesel. Its going away. Its dirty, inneficient, and expensive. VW had to cheat to have "clean" diesel.

So ford is developing the future, here. For trucks...not cars.

That would be a risky bet. Especially considering the amount of time and money they put into diesel. Also considering almost every performance shop is discussing the godzilla drag race potential..... But that's a foreign language to some.

I have exactly one bajillion projects going on. I finished the Station Wagon, a '91 FLHTC with a 124" S&S SuperSidewinder and a 6-spd, and the '98 Buell is running like a champ. I'm also working on a '77 Shovelhead chopper and have two MGBs that I'm collecting parts for V8 swaps for. But I've recently collected all the parts I need to build a reasonable facsimile of this monster!!

It'll have a 460, a ZF 5-spd and 4WD. It's gonna be my plow truck. :D1385390624 1385390674 1385390708

There is a 6-spd, but the one I'm using is a 5-spd out of an '88 F350 diesel dually. All the 385 blocks and the diesel have the same bolt pattern so the only fiddling I'll have to do is mating the transfer case. I may end up going divorced but we'll see.

The frame I'm using, which I'm stretching, is from my '92 F450 dually, the rear end will get a ratio change and disc brakes, the front end and transfer case are out of my '01 F350 ( the black one in most of my other photos) and a bunch of other bits out of my '88.

The body is still up in the air. I have eyes on a couple steel bodies that are way too much money, a couple that are the right money but need a lot of work, and I'm considering buying a 'glass body from Factory Five, so several options there.

Air con, power windows, lots of creature comforts will be included. I'm old, I need that shit!! :)

Is there a PTO/PTU rebuild kit? I had mine replaced with a new FORD PTU this week and want to go over the old one and open it up to see how bad off it is inside. EG: Bearings, gears etc..... I want to use it as a template to build a better PTO/PTU cooler of my own design too. It was grinding but hadn't self destructed as of yet or crack its case.

Thems sum big gears in there.

Another one just came to mind last night...convert the Plymouth prowler, from the pedestrian thing it was...into an open wheel racing, track monster!

Hemi swaps are already being done. Do a decent aero kit for the front, some weight reduction, better transmission...that could be a street legal formula 1 racer..,

The SVO absolutely rips! First and second gear are pretty much smoke shows now. 20 lbs boost with ported everything and a nice cam are fun. Will be starting on the cosmetic stuff soon.

I would love to redo/finish out a previous project. I had a 2000 Acura Integra Type R. I added a Procharger centrifigul supercharger. I would have loved to do the CRV AWD conversion and methanol. Of course it would haver never ended. Lighter parts (carbon fiber front clip, doors and hatch, lexan rear window), better intercooler, better long block and trans, etc. etc. Sadly, family needed money and I sold it. Heard the next person blew it up. :shame:

I had the pleasure of driving an itr round the lime rock track a few years back. It wasn't exceptionally fast, but man, that car was fun! Composed, easy. Its an incredibly easy car to drive fast. Which I think is what contributes to the fun factor. You can actually enjoy it, instead of fighting the fear at each upcoming turn. It wants you to push it, it wants you to brake just a little later this time...and every time, you come out with no sweat on the palms, telling yourself you'll never do that again...

Truly a great car.

This one to the right here. 03 Marauder, want to eventually have a built bottom end and supercharged, on E or coyote swapped. Currently putting in a motor from a donor vehicle after seizing the original at 90k. Also while the motor is out, I am putting in a completely new front end. Want this to be a brand new car when it's all said and done.

I already posted this in my intro post but this was my baby for a long time! A 1972 Ford GTS. I picked it up in 05’ dirt cheap when nobody even knew what a Torino was. Most people thought was a Chevelle lol. When I first got the the 351c was a complete dog. I bought the car with the intention building the blower motor the only problem was the 351c had very little aftermarket support for it.
It took forever to complete and I had to do a lot of fabrication. You couldn’t find a 351c blower intake so I made my own by welding an aluminum riser to the Edlebrock intake. Figuring out the dual carbs and the throttle linkage was a total pia. I went through three sets of carbs before I found the right combination which was rough at $1200/per, 15 years ago. After I got the motor/exhaust figured out I put in a custom built 9” with a 3:90 gear and 35 spline axels. The car came with leaf springs from the factory so I replaced those with some drag shocks that I had to fabricate mounts for. I actually cracked the frame on it near the rear drivers side tire on my first hard dig . I welded the frame back together then the movie Gran Torino came out and suddenly the after market scene for the both Torino and the 351c exploded, if only had waited a few years it would have saved me a shit load of time and money!

I then started having seizures and broke my back (13crushed discs), I was told I would never drive again. I sold the car to one of my best friends who still owns it today. I don’t remember a lot of the finer details because the seizures I was having at the time really damaged my memory.

luckily the doc was wrong and the seizure activity subsided and I am no longer considered epileptic and was able to get my DL back.

I loved the car but as some of you SHO pioneers can attest to - it becomes more pain than pleasure when your kind of trailblazing a high performance build with little to no aftermarket support. I went through multiple motors and had to rebuild the trans a few times.
I almost bought a new SHO in 15’ which cost more than a 2021 Explorer ST (crazy!). I called Livernoise to get a feel for the platform and I got a bad vibe from them so I held off on purchasing the SHO.

I can’t turn wrenches anymore so I watched the platform and waited till some of you took on the burden. Mad props to all you SHO record holders for providing a rough template to follow and propelling the platform forward! I sure appreciate and respect the joy and misery that goes into it all.

Great post. Glad to hear you had a positive outcome. Sounds like the Torino is a beast.
