I just finished my first clutch on my first SHO (woohoo!) Took it for a spin and see that I have no rpm readout. I looked around for something that wasn't connected but can't seem to find anything. It's a Gen 1, where in the world is the plug?...

Could be a coincidence.
It gets its signal from the cam position sensor.
Does the needle move when rolling-over to start?
I have an 89, and the tach works when it feels like it, but it starts and runs A-OK.

most likely issue is a bad ground between the engine and the firewall. other candidates are connector issues at the pcm or cam sensor or wiring issue somewhere.

The tach jumps up to 0 when the car's power is on but nothing more happens. I also see I have a massive oil leak coming from somewhere. I'll have the car in the garage again tomorrow.

Not sure if this is only on gen 2 but you have the main ground connection that bolts on the tranny to engine. Check your DIS module connections and cam sensor. Your wiring harness i believe has a connection by the transmission too. Could just be a little loose.

Ok, so I just realized that my tach needle is behind the nub that it would typically rest on when the car is shut off. When the car starts the needle attempts to move but can't go anywhere because it runs into that post. Any idea how it would get back there?

Happens alot. Usually you have to take the face off to move it back to the correct side of the pin.
Maybe you could drill an extemely small hole in the face and pop it over the pin with a wire.

......or instead of drilling into your dash or taking it apart, just rev the SHO to 7k rpms...a lot of times the tach will catch itself and pull it back around.
