I just got finished replacing the plug well seals, valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets, new plugs, and new wires. I finally got done putting everything together, and it doesn't start. It will turn over, and the tach goes to approx. 500 RPM but still no go. The battery is fine. The EGR valve gasket was not replaced, but looked pretty ******. Did not apply any dielectric grease to the DIS because we did not have any. Also, some of the original bolts holding the intake on were replaced with ones from a hardware store (these were metric and the right size). I do not see or understand where my problem lies, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

I bet you forgot to plug something back in. Both DIS connectors, and the coil pack plugged in? See if she throws a code.

Either that, or the plug wires are on incorrectly.

Possibly flooded? Did you use a lot of intake cleaner in the lower runners (on the heads?) MASH the gas & hold it there while cranking - see if it fires.

It's probably a disconnect or missing ground or something, but just a thought.

Well, I moved the wires according to what was in the Chilton manual and there still is no spark. There also is no gas going to where it should be going. Does anyone know the firing order for the plugs and coil pack?

If the wiring were incorrect on the coil pack you would still get some plugs firing. They may be backfiring, but you would still get some response. The correct order on the coil pack is shown below.

Firewall
5-1
6-2
4-3
Radiator

I bet your no-start condition has to do with the lack of ground to the DIS module. You mentioned not using dielectric grease when you reinstalled the DIS. Good thing. You need to use Heat Sink Compound available from Radio Shack (small tube near the soldering supplies). Did you reconnect the ground strap to the passenger side rear intake manifold support bracket? Did you install and tighten the two bolts that attach the crossover tube to the plenums? The ground strap and the mounting bolts provide the ground path for the DIS.

Another possibility is the electrical connector to the coil pack. Is it securely attached? How about the two electrical connectors to the CPS that are located just inside (the valley) from the rear timing belt cover at the passenger side of the intake manifold. Damage or remove either of these and you will guarantee a no-start.

Isn't it incredible that it's wrong in Chiltons!
Like, thanks a lot guys! Any other bad advice you want to give me for my car?

Hey, new business idea for me. I'm going to publish and produce a manual dedicated to the Ford Taurus SHO. Sure...I don't know anything about the intricacies of the car, but apparently that is not a prerequisite.

I corrected the wires, but it still wouldn't start. I tried to start it two more times and then on the third try nothing happened. All that the car did was make this weird click noise. I was looking around on shotimes and I found an article about the starter/starter relay and how if that goes it makes a weird clicking noise. Is it possible that the starter/starter relay went out?

Your battery is probably just dead from the repeated cranking of the starter.

Update on no start-
After looking everything over, it appears the engine is not getting fuel. While checking spark, no fuel smell came from the cylinder, and the way it is turning over but not starting is consistent with no fuel. Is there anything that could have been bumped or anything like that?

Check the basics. Turn the ignition key to ON and listen for the 2 second long, steady pitched whine of the fuel pump. If not, have you bumped the impact shut-off located on the driver side of the trunk? Press the reset button. Have you reconnected the gray, 1/4" vacuum line from the fuel rail pressure damper to the front plenum?

Are you SURE that you are getting spark? Before you had said that you weren't seeing any spark.

Hook up a timing light to check to see if you have spark. Pull a plug as smell for gas. You are missing fuel or spark.

Try this!! Replace those hardware store bolts with the orginals and see if the car starts then. I know that the DIS is grounded to the intake and will not allow the car to start if not grounded properly!! The car will turnover, but not start!!
