Ok, I bought this 92 mtx, and it was bogging bad everytime you gave it gas. Started and idled great. Also found a dead altenator, so replaced the altenator, new cables and replaced the battery. Took it out for a test drive , and it has absolutely no power, almost like if you take off in second or third gear. Ran koer codes, and got the following...
159, 173, 538, 536, 521. Any ideas why it revs up slow, and has no power?

almost forgot, got rid of the awful bog, by changing the maf to a mustang one I had laying around.

159 MAF sensor is/was out of range - Clean MAF (search for proper method)

173 Oxygen sensor not switching - system is or was rich - Single, Right orr Rear HO2S - Replace rear O2 sensor (search for part numbers and procedure)

Address those two issues first and reset your idle. Here is the rest of your codes.

538 (R) System did not receive "goose" test

536 (O,R,M) Brake On Off open or shorted to ground - BOO

521 (R) Wheel not turned during test or PSP problem - PSP

Edit: Be sure the MAF you have is the correct one for a SHO

Unplug the MAF and see if it runs better.

If so, cleaning probably won't help, it will need replacement.

If this was a car that had a distributor, I would say someone had ******** the timing. That's what it reminds me of.

Well, I know the maf is not from a SHO, it is from an 89 Mustang 5.0. Could this be the whole problem?
It did get rid of the off idle bog, just revs real slow.

 So would anyone have the part #, and calibration code for a SHO maf? I have a bunch of Ford mafs laying around, one is bound to be from a SHO.

Update, pulled the intake and valve covers, and front cover, to check timing. Well, I think we have discovered at least one of the problems. When we brought it up on tdc, the timing marks are off, if you line up the upper marks, the timing tab on the dampner is at least 10 degrees off :nut: . Hope to have some extra time this weekend, to pull the dampner, and install the timing belt correctly. I'm gonna change the crank sensor, while I'm down there, ;) seeing as it wouldn't fire when we went to pull it in the garage.

Update, got the crank dampner off, and the timing marks are all lined up fine. Decided to drop the y-pipe to check cats, cut the cats open, and rear one was 2/3 blocked up, front one was empty!! :smash: (could be why front ran lean, rear ran rich??!!). Going to install new crank sensor, timing belt, and check valve lash. Might have to get a cam sensor to, as the tach hasn't worked since I go the SHO. Buddy is gonna fab up a catless y-pipe for it, and I have some flowmasters laying around, thinking of throwing them on. Hope this fixes it.

does your area enforce smog testing? If so, check to make sure that someone hasn't unplugged the SPOUT. I forgot to replace mine after the 'e-test' and the car ran well, but was gutless...

Ok, got the cps and the timing belt on, left the y-pipe off, (still welding cats back together) and she fired right up. Never sounded better, very crisp throttle response, revs very fast now. So I would say the main problem was the cats were junk :bonk: , glad no smog testing here.. , now gotta work on that pesky power steering leak, and she'll be ready to hit the road.. :thumb: .So, basically ended up doing a front 60k, check valve lash and all is good, the guy I got the car from, also had the wrong intake gaskets on.. :nut: . So I am very happy right now!!! :thumb:
