Both of my mufflers have holles size of a letter size paper. lol. Since I am completly broke right now I need a solution to this problem. The car is real loud to a point where my radio became useless. I was thinking about completly removing the mufflers and run with out them till i get to afford a cat-back. My question is: How will it sound and how will it affect the performance? I think it will sound better than rusted swiss cheese mufflers.

Easy and relatively cheap fix.

Buy Summit Turbo mufflers from Summit Racing. $14.95 each, in the 2.25" inch offset inlet/outlet variety.

Stainless tips also from Summit are roughly $20 a piece.

If you have access to a MIG and are capable, pick up two 2" to 2.25" reducers and weld up the mufflers yourself.

Or expect a local shop to charge anywhere from $50 - $200 to install the new mufflers for you.

My SHO has no mufflers right now and it is extremely loud. You thought it was bad with holes in the mufflers? Way worse without mufflers.

Way worse.

Haha sometimes I just wanna rip my muffler (single exhaust) off and just run without it for laughs. Besides, I like loud, car is already ghetto, and my neighbors are snobby as heck and so who gives a rip about em. :D :****:

My mufflers were rusted out so bad they were crooked so I cut them off completely. It didn't make any difference in the sound level of my car. I guess it depends on how rusted the mufflers are.

It's loud but I thought it sounded cool when accelerating. At 3/4 acceleration in 1st gear the Yamaha sounds sweet between 2000-3500 rpms. With the mufflers on it doesn't good until 4000 rpms when the secondaries open up. However, the drone at steady state cruising on the highway will wear on you quick.

After a few days of wide open exhaust I put on some cheap Turbo mufflers at a local performance exhaust shop. The car seemed as quiet as a Cadillac in comparison.

I concur! I did that one time after my rod shifter conversion and before I had my Dynomax installed. I drove around town for like an hour like that, had earplugs too....man that brought on A LOT of looks. I did happen to go by a cop and not get pulled over as well

Nope...between the SLO, SHO and the KIA there was ONE car I was never pulled over in...the same one that I did 137mph once and did numerous 100+ runs on the highway with.

My donut gasket failed after I put it all back together after the clutch replacement. And the ghetto spring bolts I put on loosened, so I had the same dilemna.

And so how do you drive to work at 630 am without waking neighbors??

------------------------------------------------------------------

I also had the bad mufflers for a little while, mine rusted out on top, not bottom.
I cut a mtn. dew can and zip tied around the hole. It helped just a little, and sometimes rattled. Sounded kinda funny.. :bonk:
