The parts car at my yard has locking lugs. But no key to be found... I want to score the wheels and practically new front quick struts when I take the Prizm to its final rest in return... I have a couple of pair of vise grips, but I usually end up breaking stuff with them (fingers or otherwise). I also have a big a$$ pair of channel lock pliers (like 10" or so... a gift from my cousin one year). I have also heard you can crack them loose with a chisel and hammer going in the proper direction.... ****, if I get the locks off in good shape I'll order a key for them for my car... Any other ideas? There isn't any way to get air/power to it...

Hammer and chisel will work best in your situation, or you can take a 12pt socket of the right size (21 or 22mm)? and pound it over the lock and turn it off.

i lost mine and all i had to do was email mcguard with a picture of the lock internals on the wheel and they send me a new key for about 15 or so. then got rid of the locks. im not worried about people stealing my factory slicers. i also live on the good side of town which helps.

I was wondering what size appx. would work... Thanks, Ishod. I'll dig around for that 21 or 22... I even though about these:

The #13 looks about right as the regular lugnut is 3/4". Hmmm, K-Mart is right up the street. I think I remember seeing them there too. Yes, they have some Craftsman tools at K-Mart now. As they OWN Sears...

Im in the same boat, I lost my key, and have tryed everything. I tried vice grips, no luck. I was thinking of those bolt extractors, but they dont come in a big enough size. I might just take the car to a tire shop and tell them to just take them off. IDK....Ill try anything.

I would use a 22mm socket, but that is a one time use sorta thing right?

I had this on my sable. if they are the stock style locks, this method should work. I believe I tooka 13/16s socket 6 point, i belive that was the size. I jsut hammered the socket on the lock all the way till the socket hit the wheel, then just crack them with a breaker bar. That way worked for me, maybe try that.... Impact hammer has worked well with this as well since the hammering action, but since you can't get air to this car, the breaker bar should work great.

If you cant find your lock key for your factory rims, just stop by a Ford Dealer and they will have a set of them there. My local dealer just took the 4 of mine off for me for nothing. I just drove home then and put 4 regular lug nuts on...

Well, the chisel didn't work. I tried both fronts cause I wanted the quick struts. All it did was chip the "wall" around the squiggly keyed area... I gave up for now... I put the covers back on and will try again sometime. Maybe I'll get the bolt out kit for the next run also...

There is a key identification number on the registration card. Look for the McGard card in the owners manual. It could be in a envelope, attached to the lug wrench. Might be registered already. Call McGard toll free: 1-800-444-5847. Or direct: 716-662-8980. Have your cars VIN ready. If the I.D. portion of the card is not available, the lock manufacturer can be contacted at 1-800-669-8788.

But after 3 sets were mailed to me and 4 weeks or trying to get the right lock . I had the tire place "remove" my old ones so I could get new tires ASAP!!!!!

Tighten up the rest of the nuts and put a socket that barely fits over the lock... (hammer it in) then go at it with a ratchet and a tube or something for leverage. It worked on my 89.
