Hi guys (and girls?). I'm a Contour SVT owner working on a Fox body Mustang with a bolt on rr disc brake kit from Ford Performance. I'm trying to get a handle on replacement pads and discs and I'm dealing with old parts/part no.'s.

I have an old Ford Performancee Parts catalogue which identifies the rear disc pads as being the same on 89-92 SHO, 87&88 T-Bird Turbo coupe and the 89-92 T-Bird SC. Now I know that the SHO and the Super Coupe used 5 bolt wheel/disc pattern which I'm assuming is Fords standard 5 on 4.5", but the Turbo coupe & Mustang used a 4 bolt pattern.

Can anyone confirm the OD of the discs and the bolt pattern too? I'm converting to 5 bolt axles so I need that info. as well. Believe my brake kit uses parts from an 87/88 Turbo coupe.

Thanks!

Rear pads are probably the same, but the discs themselves will not be. Mustand is 5x4.5", Taurus/SHO and Thunderbird is 5x4.25.

I don't recall an easy way to convert the TC rear disc setup to Five lug, but I never looked into it. It's so much easier to source 94+ Mustang parts, and use the correct axles.

Yes that is my plan to use the 94+ axles. What I'm trying to figure out is if I can source an off-the-shelf rotor or will I have to machine the 4 bolt rotors to a 5 bolt pattern.

Just a side note... I was in the local wrecking yard yesterday checking out an 01 Lincoln LS and the bolt pattern is a 5 on 4.25-same as the SHO and SC.

I would just use 94-98 Mustang parts. Bolts on, no guessing.

94 axles, calipers, pads, rotors, caliper brackets, backing plates, anti-moan brackets, and dust shields.

****, I have a setup from a 99 in my garage in a box, but you're just too far away.

Late 80s Lincoln LSCs used rear discs with 5x4.5 rotors - they may be what you are looking for.

Otherwise, your best option could be redrilling the 4 lug rotors.

Edit: Found this

"Five lug Turbo Coupe conversion:
Use the 94-98 axles Mustang axles. Use 1990 Mazda MPV 3.0 V6 front rotors (10", 5 lug x 4.5" pattern, 2 7/16" offset ). While you are at the auto parts store, set a TC rear rotor side by side with the Mazda rotor and they are the same except for the offset.

The next step fixes the offset problem:
Use a Maximum MotorSports 1/8 spacer (MMWS6, Maximum Motorsports :: The Leader In Mustang Performance Suspension ) between the inside of the rotor and the axle ******. The spacers may need to have the OD machined to fit properly. The stock rotor offset is 2 5/16" and the Mazda rotors are 2 7/16" offset. The 1/8" spacer puts the rotor back dead center alignment with the calipers.

The Mazda rotors are under $30 each, and I have seen them for $20 each. The MM spacers are two for $30 + $9 shipping. So the entire package costs $99. That saves $41, which most of us could find a very good use for."

The best way IMHO is 94-98 mustang spindles installed using the 94 style ball joint with the 94 up cobra brakes. You will need to get the brake hoses for the cobra, and the right side requires and adapter fitting due to line size diffrence, the fitting is made by edleman and carried at most parts stores. just take in the old and new line and thy can get you what you need. The rear would be done by using a 94-98 mustang 8.8 rearend. I would also use the master cylinder and proportioning valve from the 94 up donor car. If you want to continue to use your housing.....the parts from the V-6 car will slide into your housing if you use all of the brackets, dust shields and calipers from the V-6 housing. The axles are the same V-6 and V-8. If the old set up from Ford Motorsport was a 4 lug set up then yes it was the 87-88 thunderbird turbo coupe parts.

kevinspann: Thanks for the info. regarding the mazda brakes. Offset was my concern but I have access to a machine shop in the event of spacers. I did find some info. stating that the Fox body Lincoln Mk 7 used the same components but with the 5 on 4.5" pattern. I have a set of 95 spindles and Cobra R 13" frt brakes, but I'm attempting to do this job one step at a time. First step is the rear (changing axles, etc.) and I can simply buy Lincoln frt rotors as the 11" OD is the same.

The Ford rr kit came with a different master cylinder and an adjustable proportioning valve. The Cobra R brake kit comes with a different master and hoses.

Thanks for the help Guys!
