Hello, my name is Hock and I'm a newbie.

Ok, enough of that crap. I just bought a 99 SHO this week and like everyone else that buys these kind of cars I have a question.

While looking under the hood I noticed that the MAF was painted black. Is that typical for these cars of is it most likely an after market MAF. I have a 90 SC so I know what the normal Ford MAF's look like thats why I'm not too sure about this one.

So far I like this car, its not quiet as fast as my SC but it sure does get me through traffic quick and it's perfect for the family. I bought for $5000 and it has Borla mufflers and the cams where already welded so thats one less thing I have to worry about. I have to look a little harder but I swear it already had a trans cooler too.

Welcome

Most (all?) gen3 SHO MAF's are black plastic or polycarbonate. I think it's cheaper to produce and is less susceptible to heat soak. They are 80mm's by the way.

The '99s also got rid of the bridge that went through the middle of the metal ones. I bet the the MAF tables are different in the programming.

96-97 - Silver aluminum. If I'm not mistaken. The Ford ****** ZX2 is the same way, only the 98-99's had a aluminum MAF, and the mid-late 99-03 had black plastic MAFS.

98-99 - Black plastic.

First of all, OOH-RAH Devil Dog!

Welcome to the Forum. Just curious, did you get your 99' from Jason in Vanceboro? If so, that's a sweet 99' :thumb:

Um, why yes, I did get it off of Jason in Vanceboro, and yes, its very SWEET! Other than the 96 GT I had I have never recieved some many good comments about my car, well except my 90 SC but that was all from drag racing. Semper Fi!

Later,
Hock

Not mine. The '99 MAF sensor I have in my '97 is virtually identical to the alloy '97 MAF sensor, except that it's black plastic.
