Hi, new to forum. Own a 2015 SHO with stock coolers. Have 72,000 miles...PTU oil changed twice. I live in the Denton Texas area had PTU oil changed with new exhaust bolts and gaskets at Bill Utter Ford who did a great job.
I viewed the fluid on both occasions ...the fluid appeared to be fine. It is hot in summer so I leave bottom engine
cover off on long trips and driving around Dallas area. It is stock...I drive it for fun and when on vacation. I highly maintain the SHO, looks like new since I drive my 2008 Buick Super a lot. If I were to upgrade I must pass emission test big time in Denton county. The sho is fast stock form and can get one plenty of speed warnings, but i would like different downpipes and larger turbos. But very happy as beautiful as it is from Ford.

The best catted DPs in my opinion, that and i own them is PPE. Unfortunately the price is just going up and up, but made well enough to pass emissions, and just well crafted pieces of art all together. GH turbos are a good choice, i went with TurboBay, but nothing against GH at all, a great company. To be honest, start simple, new plugs, O2s, all fluids changed even coolant, get you some AD mounts first for the transmission, then just start with a tune, GH or AJP, the top 2 in the game. And you might be happy enough with just a tune. It's a night and day difference, or become addicts like the rest of us and just keep going and going.

Did all the simple things except trans mounts...great to hear PPE downpipes pass emissions. i guess with the tune just remove tune prior to state inspection. Can one tell a performance difference with just PPE downpipes?

Yes there worth it, quicker spool, can hear it too. Adds I think 20hp. Trans mounts from AD is a must If you tune, save you from the wheel hop and crapping your pants, just with a 93 tune, no mods I wheel hopped. AD mounts to greatly reduce the twist of tranny under high load. $200 investment and have to say even the thousands I've spent so far those mounts are the best mod for the car.

Yes, i have spent thousands just keeping the sho like new, i can only imagine what a lot of the goodies would cost to purchase and install. I mostly drive high speed tho a lot of folks want to take me on from light to light. I just don't but i do wot it at 50 and 60 at times and drive 80 and higher a bunch. We have a toll road in Texas with 85 posted limit and when i went to Yellowstone this past summer i drove 80 to 100 across Montana...pure fun and of course no wheel hop. Good news tho about the downpipes...I see myself with a set.

Welcome. PPE or any larger than stock downpipes, don't so much add a substantial amount to Total horsepower. The important part is they add to the area under the curve. I would say I improved at least 2/10 in the quarter mile with my PPE catted pipes.

Its neat to say you have them and still pass inspection; gotta be more fun to hear your turbos spooling up faster on entry ramps entering highways.

Does a GH intercooler mess up emissions, does a GH intercooler and GH turbos mess up state inspections. Do you know of trans mounts that do not induce nvh any more than stock but are better than stock. The sho goes to Landrum and straight to Sacramento back to Denton area every year plus my personal vacations so you know i need to keep it quiet when cruise is set. You may not know and that's OK; you and others reach out to new members and support many others. What a plus to have you all in/on the forum. I think an AJP tune is where i need to go but need to know if i can back out of it easily for state inspections. Thank you. I get the feeling I am one of some that have to worry about state inspections...really wished i did not have too.

I think the best answer for state inspections is it depends. Depends on the inspector, state parameters to pass ect. Really a local auto or performance board might be the best place to get info about emissions/state inspections. Might be a bunch of younger tuner boy types on some, but local info is really valuable.

Yes, i really need to find a SHO in Dallas area that has mods and ask for a ride and drive. I do know if it breathes fine and has a good gas cap one is fine. I had a supercharger placed on my F150.. passed emissions and everyone was happy.

I noticed you had a 94 green sho... i had a green one too.. my wife was sold on it when i told her it is the first car to have dual airbags; then traded for a Bonneville.

Intercooler won't mess with emissions,.neither will turbos, it's all about the cats. AD mounts with give more NVH, but just up the idle rpm by hundred and you should be fine, AD mounts though should be first purchase before any mods, wheel hop is a pants crapper. Simple 3bar tune is a easy swap back to stock for in inspection, but personally if you have a good catted DP set, I see no issues passing not stock.

I know you are probably right about all and that is where i will start. The folks at summit racing in Arlington recently said the same about intercooler and turbos and know of a few sho's running such mods. Thank you tons for starting me on the right path as to where to begin. I will post pictures of my SHO later this week...i sure like it.

Take a gander at this thread. Has cliffnotes and everything. Some tool chronicled his built and ownership and probably can answer most of your inquiries.

Welcome

Every state is different but just to ease your mind I passed Indiana emissions with tune and every mod in my signature.
(If you’re on a phone turn it sideways)

I’ve since moved over one to a free county so I don’t have to test anymore.

This thread is like a bible ...it's all there if one wants to get somewhere. I will start with trans mounts first. The thread has it all, mostly how to do it right the first time and how to take care of an SHO which i have a good feel for. I had ford change the trans fluid at 50,000 at which time I was told by ford good for 150,000 miles and had the PTU oil changed twice just recently at 72,000. Had rear end fluid changed twice and coolant once..need to do again now. Both times ptu oil looked good. Saw trans oil looked good but harder to tell but was pretty red. The treads are great on how to maintain an sho if for no other reason. I have been pretty close to thread recommendations. I know where to begin for mod sake. Again thank you for your tremendous help and taking the time to send the sho/life saving threads/cliff notes.
