For those of you that are not familiar with the history of this problem:

I acquired a 91 Plus a couple of months ago. My dif pin went south on the way home and I had a transmission sent to Bizzy to replace the bad one. Thanks to all who helped me during this.

Yesterday I finally finished the install of the transmission and it I am having a bitch of a time shifting in to mostly 2nd, 4th, and reverse, but it's hard to shift in all gears.

Now, I know that Bizzy replaced a syncro or two and that it will take time for those to soak up the trans fluid. I needed a new T.O.B. for the install because the one I had before didn't fit on the transmission. One of my motor mounts looks to be going south, but the transmission shifted fine before with the same mount. What am I missing here?

Thanks

Almost sounds like a linkage problem... Have you checked anything under the car yet (i.e the little black box)?

It sounds like you are missing a working throwout bearing. I don't understand the outcome of the TOB issue. Did you install a new one or reinstall the old one? It is the job of the TOB to decouple the flywheel from the pressure plate to allow the shifter to change gears. Are you sure the clutch cable is properly tensioned and fully actuating the release lever and throwout bearing.

What kind of fluid was used? I've had issues with fluids doing this to me. Should be a Dexron type ATF. Choice is yours. All MTX are different as to which fluid works the best though.

I replaced the TOB with the OEM rev B TOB as it was all I could get on the spot. I am having this shifting problem also with the car off. I don't think it's the TOB. Maybe the fluid??? Also, it's a rod shifter not a cable shifter.

If you are having the same problem even while the car is off it sounds like its a problem within the transmission itself and not the clutch assembly.

This transmission was done for me by Bizzy. Her reputation for her work speaks for itself. I'm confident that when she says a transmission is good, then it's good.

Get underneath the car, and try manually putting the car in gear. That'll tell the tale.

So, what fluid did you use?

I used regular dexron atx fluid. Maybe I should drain it and go with a synthetic fluid.

Will I need to unhitch the rod shifter for this?

I agree that all the bottom gears being difficult is linkage related. **** everything that moves. Once lubed, **** again.

Change the fluid to syncromesh or mobil one atf.

Adjust the clutch cable.

As a transmission rebuilder, I must say. Even I had Beth build my transmission. She is truely the best.

Yes. Use a small screwdriver in the shift shaft as a "handle"

Twisting it left or right changes you from the 3-4 gate to the 5-R gate if you twist to the right(clockwise). And from the 3-4 gate to the 1-2 gate if you twist left.

Pushing the shift shaft into the trans will yield 2nd, 3rd or reverse(if you are twisting to the right against spring pressure while pusing).

Make sure you can work it through all the gears with the screwdriver. If you can, chances are good that the trans is fine.

See the product feedback forum for the latest scoop on fluid. Synthetic is out of my MTX and the recommended fluid is in it, with great results.
