Hey...Im not the most motorheaded dude on the planet but I was wondering from all of you SHO experts how do you know if your tranny is going?
I can feel some slippage in the lower gears.
Ive got 130k on this baby now.
What am I look'in at as far as replacement costs.
Is it worth it? The engine runs great.

pshychic powers say ATX and if you don't mind I will say Dayumm bitch!, how did you pull that many out of an AXOD-E?! You must have been making love to that car. :D So oh wait you had a question. :) It's definetly worth a rebuild if it's done right. You want to have them drill out the valve body to get more oil to the rear planetaries and also have a shift kit installed.
The Shift kit may make shifting rougher, but will dramtically increase the life of the tranny.

I got 138K out of mine. She really didn't give me any signs that I noticed. My wife took it for the day and three times it chuggin and jerkin (her words) on the forth the entire planitary gear shelled itself need less to say the car wouldn't budge an inch. It's a painful 2500 bucks to get repaired.

So how do I find a good and reasonable mechanic who can do this work?. I'm in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area...do I look for one who knows his or her way around a SHO?
What am I looking at as far as cost?

A tranny shop nit gonna Know a thing about the SHO they will only know the tranny. You will have to do some research and call places say maybe the better business buaera. Just don't use the Big tranny companies they will screw you in a heart beat, they use cheap ass shit and are only ther to make money they really don't care about there product/customer. BTW when I say big I mean nation wide.

Hey, someone from my hometown. My first suggestion is have it rebuilt by FPS, it will be bulletproof... but you will have to ship it to georgia and back, which won't be cheap.

If you want it done locally, take it over to Master Auto on Blairsferry Rd. I can't remember the actual intersection now, but it's right where it changes over to being Marion. I don't know that they will do the work themselves, but if they won't do it, they will recommend a place to do it (I just can't remember where they recommend). They're real good guys and good mechanics, they handle all of my family's cars, plus they love the SHO, they thought mine was great when I brought it in to them.

btw, my '94 ATX has 139k miles on it and no signs of dying anytime soon **knocks on wood**. I'm hoping it will last until I get a slightly higher paying job (which hopefully will be soon, but who knows).
