Well I screwed up. Waited too long to take my car in and get the chrome fixed on the tail lights. Car had 36,400 miles on it and the dealer told me to pound sand. They want $600 for new chrome to go around the tail lights on both sides.

So I would like to find some replacement tail lights that don't have the chrome on them or maybe something aftermarket. Any suggestions?

Screw that - just remove the lights, sand off the chrome, clean them, tape the red portion of the lights up and hit the outer part with a black spray can. They will probably look more unique and depending on your car colour, probably make it nicer instead of so bling, bling with the chrome!

Yea I thought about that but my car is silver which is really hard to match. I guess I could give it a shot. Nothing to really lose at this point.

I ran into the same issue and didn't see the logic in replacing them only to have them peel again. I cured this issue with a can of black plasti dip so far so good looks much better for 5 bucks

I'd be calling Ford's 1-800 #. It's a known issue on the SHO and they should make an exception. No reason this should be happening in a 3 year old (or less) car.

I know I've had mine replaced 3 times now and the service manager at my dealer said they've done a lot of them. I think this is a reason the 2013's have no chrome on the tail lights - Ford's supplier couldn't get the process right.

There are different warranty levels, you know. Paint and rust should have a much longer warranty. Take it higher up the chain, as per the above post. That chrome should not peel for years, that's a joke...

It's basically up the service writer to make that warranty call. Ford has the ability to still cover that under warranty, especially with the low of miles on there. Like others have said, paint it or just get the SEL Taurus lights. I'm on my second set and they began peeling a couple months ago. I don't want to do the black paint due to my other chrome on the trunk color matched silver. I'll probably do the SEL lights myself next time I go the dealer.

Why replace them? Mask off the chrome portions and paint them yourselves.

Rattle can, Plasti-Dip, or ****..... have a sign shop throw vinyl over 'em.....

Helluva a lot cheaper, and looks a helluva lot better to!
