Hello all,

So I am going to be putting some H&R's (already have them) on my 13' SHO w/PP.

The rear shocks/struts are leaking so I plan to replace them and since I'm doing the job anyways figure I'll replace the fronts as well.

Research has shown me that the SHO w/PP uses the same parts as the Police Interceptor. (PP stands for Police Package it seems) so here's the dilemma...

Do I replace with OEM? Go Monroe (the only manufacture with a dedicated replacement) or do I ditch the PP set up and go with a KYB set up?

I like the tautness of my current stock PP. Heard that it will get a bit taunter with the H&R's which is fine but am a bit concerned that the Monroe's will be to stiff (presuming they are stiffer than the OEM.)

The KYB's I heard are a bit stiffer than stock but are they as stiff as the OEM PP set up?

Price point the non OEM stuff is significantly cheaper ( $300) but I'd rather not end up softer and not be happy.

Suggestions?

PS. The reason I'm not going to a Megan/ BC Race setup is 1) I have the H&R's, 2) They seems to require cutting of the wheel well to access controls and 3) My past experience with them on my Subaru was less than stellar for a daily driver. Great for track days though.

Thanks for the input gang.

One quick question: Where do you see specific Monroe replacements for the Performance Package SHO? They don't have a different part number in their online catalog.

Also, it's not necessarily true that the Police Interceptor (PI) uses the same struts and other parts that a PP SHO does. Some stuff, yes, like the cooled PTU, but I wouldn't be so sure about the struts as the PI is not an Ecoboost (it's an NA 3.7), so the engine might be a different weight, meaning the springs are different and might require a different strut valving.

Maybe things have changed, and there is certainly more experience with the SHO itself around here than I can provide, but - in my experience, Monroes are "meh". They are decent OEM replacements maybe, and that might be fine if you're looking for replacements for the non-PP struts, but I wouldn't think they'd be stiffer than non-PP.

If you look up our SHO on the Ford parts database the struts share part numbers between the pp and the police interceptor. Same on Monroe site.

Monroe refers to the SHO w. "Police" package as an option for their severe service struts.

I know for us PP stands for the Performance Package but some sites call it the Police Package.

That may be the case, IDK but the "Police Package" is actually several different motors and is called the "Police Interceptor" by Ford, but that is not what you are asking. If you go through the threads this question has come up almost every month, I just replied to one a last week that is very similar an there is no real consensuses. There is NO aftermarket performance shock for this car, and I have not seen anything particularly glowing about any of the replacement shocks you mentioned above. From what I have gleaned most people say your best bet is OEM replacement from Ford, they seem to have the best record of any of the shocks you mentioned. I agree with your impression of the Megans there good for the track not so much if you want a comfortable daily drive. For the record I have been searching on line for a really good replacement shock for a year I can not find one. Hope that helps Good Day.

So decided to go with OEM. Best pricing I have found including shipping to Canada seems to be Rock Auto. 40-60% cheaper than my local Ford store even with shipping factored in!

The Police Interceptor shares the same strut/ shock part numbers as the SHO w. PP. through the Ford site. Configuration for the PI car makes no difference.

FYI Krewat, Not all Police Interceptors use the 3.7l v6. Here we have both the 3.7s and the 3.5Ts. And not are all AWD.

The Monroes may work as in fit, same as KYB but I think you be dissapointed...I found KYBs to suck within a yr, Monroe my friend said was mushier on his PP sho(14), I went with PP MC strut, was happy for 60,000, Now new ones make me happy too. The PP set up as far as suspension, cooling, and brakes especially on a 13+ is in my book excellent for a sporty DD.....

I put H&R springs on my 2014 SHO with PP - no issues whatsoever and the ride is great! The reason the ride is OEM-like is exactly what you're discussing here! The PP cars have a stronger suspension so it deals with the H&R springs better than non-PP cars! If anything, it's an extremely minor difference as far as some bumps or dips but that's simply because the car is more engaged now with the road and driver-feedback! But for daily use, I already said it - like OEM quality ride! Love my H&R springs and the way the car looks!
