I am going to get around to changing the plugs finally after last weeks disaster of breaking a valve cover bolt. The valve cover bolt is still stuck in the head. I was told to use an easyout to remove it. do I want to get the smallest one or the largest one possible? Do i want the head to be warm hot cold what which will help the ******* come out? what should I torque the rest of the valve cover bolts to considering this one broke at around 12 should I go down to 8 and be safe. will that be a problem? also I have another dumb question. I've never done a tune up before but what is the ring that comes with the spark plugs for. do I put that on the thread of the spark plug (like a gasket. and how far down do I torque the spark plug? in other words is there a torque spec or do you tighten it till it can't be tightened?
thanks again

We broke a valve cover bolt on a buddies sho. We took a small screw driver and kinda tapped it in to the rest of the bolt. With enough pressure we were able to turn the bolt free.Good luck.

I torque mine to 7 ft lbs, no more!

If you want to try, you can heat the area around where the bolt is threated into the head. Not the bolt itself.

If you have the room, I sugguest that you cut a slot into the end of the bolt. Then use a screwdriver to back it out.

Let us know your progress! :thumb:

Torque spec Spark plugs - SHO 17 to 19 foot lbs
Cylinder head cover to cylinder head 8 to 11 ft. lbs torque.

Sears Hardware sells a broken bolt extracter set for about $25. It includes reverse drill bits and the attached extractor. The extractor can be set to depth, and will engage the broken bolt when you drill deep enough. The reverse action of the drill will turn out the broken piece. It works very well. rangerj

yeah, install them with them on. they are just to ensure a seal. Make sure to use some anti-seize too.
