Have had a bit of a rattle from the right rear suspension for some time now, and I finally had some time to take it to Midas and have it checked out.
They told me I needed two new struts and maybe strut mounts depending on if they come out of the strut. (?)

My question is, how many of you have replaced the strut mounts along with the struts? They said there's a rubber part at the top of the strut that wears out eventually (probably causing my noise), does this come with the new struts? Are there any other parts I should consider replacing at this time?

Looks like a "fairly" simple task, and a friend who's done this a few times on his Mustang has agreed to help (thank god). Rock Auto has a buy 3 get one free sale, so maybe I'll pick up two for the front as well.

No it does not come with new struts
Yes, it's more likely your clunk than a bad strut is, honestly.

Fronts are different parts / configuration than rears are.

What's that rubber part called? :)
The rear struts themselves seem to act okay. The fronts on the other hand might be a bit sloppy.

Edit: Chilton's lists a rear shock absorber jounce bumper (goes on the top of the strut under the middle nut I think). (?)

Rear spring / strut assembly:

Strut / Spring / Washer or old style is a thick metal block / Strut Mount (Rubber thing) / washer / strut shaft nut. The strut mount is what has the 3 studs that go through the top of the strut tower.

There is also a dust boot & Bump Stop (keeps the car from bottoming out the strut, damaging it), which go on the strut shaft under the mount.

On the front it's similar, except there are different configs for the strut mount (bearing cap / plate; strut mount; optional metal spacer depending on year, etc.)
