I just paid for, and will pick up a 1991 SHO Plus in the next week, or so. My first car was a 1991 Taurus, just the plain one, nothing fancy. I have always been a fan of the SHO, and have been considering buying one for the last few years. Pulled the trigger last night. I don't have photos, yet, but it is a project. Hasn't run in over a year. Owner said he stopped driving because the AC stopped working. He has a pile of receipts for the 22 years of his ownership. It is high mileage (209k) and the paint is faded, and the seat are a bit worn, but I'm happy with it.
I'm a Subaru and VW guy. I have owned multiple air-cooled VW's and have owned the same 2003 WRX twice. As soon as I get the SHO home, I'll bring the maintenance up to schedule, handle an oil leak, and get her back on the road. After that I'll look into the AC issues, and maybe tackle the cosmetic issues.
I have been browsing the forum for the last week, and will start researching maintenance. I figure I will pull the intake to clean, inspect the valve cover gaskets, cam seals, etc, and check the valve lashing. I will also inspect the timing belt (it is a belt, correct?) and replace what is needed.
I learned the ins and outs of forum protocol on NASIOC which is a huge Subaru forum filled with tons of knowledge and as much or more whiney kids without a clue. But on every forum there is a group of good guys with butt loads of knowledge, so I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.
Where are you guys buying your basic maintenance parts? I spend a lot of time at O'Reilly's near my house, and have some experience with Rock Auto. I guess I'm curious if your FLAPS are able to get what you need, or if you have to use the internet.
Thanks guys,
Jason
