So, it's spring, and I finally got around to installing my new mods. I figured since I was swapping out the thermostat I'd do a coolant flush - probably the first change this car's had. Still working out the old antifreeze at the moment (letting it drain now)... so I haven't had a chance to test it out yet... excited though!

See new mods list in my sig. :D

Actually, that's a story. For starters, I have 3 gallons of Motorcraft Orange... but I've been sitting here wondering how much water's really going to be left when I'm only ever dumping 1.75 gallons per cycle... and 11.7 qts IIRC for the system. So I had this crazy idea, to do a final few cycles with coolant rather than water, dumping perfectly good coolant granted, but still - will make sure it's closer to 50/50, or so I'm hoping. However, I only had the 3 gallons of Motorcraft stuff... and so I ran out today and picked up another 3 gallons of Prestone Dexcool 50/50, as it says it meets Ford WSS-M97B44-D (as noted on the Motorcraft Orange) so most of that will be dumped... just using it to push the distilled water out.

Filling with a venturi vaccum pump FWIW.

Like the final mod in my list? ;) hehe

BTW... I know people at work are going to ask me how much power it makes... since this isn't going on a dyno anytime soon (maybe Carlisle this June if I'm lucky) then until then, what should I tell them? They'll want to know crank HP... best guess is _____. ??

A Heavy Foot can make upwards of 150 crank HP on this engine ... Definitely push out as much of the Prestone stuff as you can before you install the Motorcraft Orange. Even though they say meet or exceed the Ford requirement, best to mix as little as possible.

Fair enough... and as it turns out... it won't be a problem at all. I broke the petcock (sigh), but fortunately it was snug, after my last water empty, so I filled it with Motorcraft Orange, and will head to the dealership tomorrow to get the petcock replaced, and will have the finish (e.g. redo) the flush. (Watch them not have it the petcock in stock, lol.)

Seriously, if anyone has a "best guess" at total crank HP for my mods list (or even WHP, I can divide by 0.8, np) I want to be able to tell people when they ask, "I think, based on what others have suggested, that it's probably around N Horsepower." Sounds a lot better informed than... "I haven't the foggiest, but I sure do like it!!" :)

Rcryniak, I hope you take your car to the track. Dyno numbers are interesting but 0-60 and/or quarter mile times are what separates the theoretical from the reality. :)

Absolutely!! And citing 0-60 and 1/4 times are great too... I will just invariably get asked how much horsepower I'm making, and I wanted to have AN answer even if it's a SWAG (scientific wild ass guess)

360-370 awhp

Thanks!

No problem...my tune, 3bar, tstat, catless DP'S have gotten me a 12.34 (not the normal results one would expect to see) and those #'s put into the Wallace racing calculator net me a 0-60 in 3.69 seconds.

18-22% seems to be a range that isn't argued about much...some feel it's more like 18% and some are at 22%. Leaving 20% the monkey in the middle.

I have one of those scenarios too, with just the 4+ tune I ran a personal best of 12.7, and from what I understand that's not typical. Hopefully I'll see mid or low 12's with these mods too. I'm just missing the downpipes... that's next after my brake upgrade; and a really big reason why I want to get a lift lol.

For 0-60 times, my tuning device (which doubles as a touch screen guage pod... the "MyCalibr8r Touch" that used to be offered by Livernois for '10-'12's) has a really nifty track mode that lets you measure 0-60, 1/8, and 1/4 times. It logs it too. :) Best 0-60 on my old setup was 4.5 seconds. Hoping to break into 3's :)

Very nice...my best on 2bar was a 12.66, so you're on pace to surprise some people as well....maintenance is key!!!!

Check out the Wallace Racing calculator...online and real easy to enter your 1/8th mile stats from time slips. Pretty accurate they say.

Wait, what year are you? Judging by the hood in your member pic, looks like 10-12... is it a 12??

Did you use the Motorcraft VC-1 cooling system flush? I am going to do the same thing as you. I bought the Vc-1 but haven't used it yet.

Here's what I find is the easiest way to flush your coolant and end up with a good 50/50 mixture. First, don't buy the premixed stuff and only buy the 100% strength. Second, completely flush the entire system with water so all that's left is water and no antifreeze. Take the total capacity, divide by two, and add that much 100% strength antifreeze. Now top off the system with just water and keep adding water until the system is completely full and free of air. The water and antifreeze will all mix together after a little driving.

Rather than try to completely drain the whole system and guess how much 50/50 antifreeze to add just add how much antifreeze you know it needs and dilute with water. As long as the only thing remain in the system is water you'll be spot on with the mixture.
