Hello all, I live in Northern Va. I have always been a Ford fan. Have a 91 probe, and 92 5.0 mustang. I see 2 SHO's on craigslist, and have always wanted one. One is a 92 with 162k, 5 spd, 3.0 that "needs rear shocks" for 1100, and the other is a 95, 5spd, 93k for 1700. No pics. Does anyone know these cars, and are these decent prices?

Welcome

Only way to know if they're decent prices is to go check them out. Black is a rare color though.

Thanks, I have pretty good mechanical knowledge. What are common probs with these cars, and can most repairs be done by someone with some car exp?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my ?'s.

60k and rod bearings are pretty much the main two. I would guess that unless it comes from an enthusiast, the rod bearings will not have been done.

Ask when the last valve lash adjustment was done. If they look at you like they don't know what they **** you're talking about you can be sure a true 60k was never done.

Welcome! Don't be worried about the mileage, be worried about the maint. If i had to chose between the 2 you metioned i would chose the 95;)

EDIT: good prices on both. Do expect to spend anywhere from 500-1000 bucks on maint.... (Depending on how far you want to sink your teeth into it.)

Thanks for your help....What is involved in a 60K service? Any particular reason you would choose the 95?

Welcome to the forum!

I would personally go with the 95 only because it has less miles and it seems like it might give you less issues. Not really familar with the G2s but make sure the 60k is done thats all i really know about them lol.

Welcome :thumb: Check for rust spots, check the plug wells for oil, look for bad leaks where its been parked. I'd go for the '95 (well depending on the colors of the cars) if you can talk'm down a few hundred, point out things that are wrong and how much it'll cost to fix.

Thanx guys for all the help and kind words. I'm really glad I found this forum. I emailed about the 95 and it is blue, dark blue..I guess. I am going to go look at it this weekend.

I live in Winchester...work in Arlington.

You've already got lots of good advice, but I'd like to second the view that maintenance is more important than mileage. Here are a few differences to consider: The '95 will have dual airbags, the '92 may or may not; the 95 will have the horn in the center of the steering wheel, but if the '92 has a driver-side airbag, the horn will work with buttons (a drawback); the '95 will have VAPS (variable assist power steering), which can be removed, whereas the '92 will not have this unfotunate (IMO) feature. The '92 will not have the pseudo-spoiler, the '95 will have it. The '95 will have better front brakes, but you can always add a '96 brake upgrade to either car.
