I am going to go take a look at an 89 SHO tomorrow with cash in hand. I have always wanted one and now I have a chance at one. The car has 150k miles on it but has been adult owned for the last 8 years. If there is any tips anybody can give me other than JUMP ON IT, that would be really helpful. I plan on being a functioning member of this forum because of the great tips I see. Hope to be a sho owner in the next 48 hours.

What year is it? V6 or V8? If V8 ask the owner if the cams have been welded. If he says no or that he doesnt know, take $1000 off the price cause thats what its gonna take to get them done. Make sure the trans shifts good.

If its a V6 ask him when the last 60K was completed. Check the oil light for any flickering. Before you take it for a drive pull the front plug wires and look for oil in the wells and on the wires themselves. After you take it for a test drive do the same thing just to make sure the owner didnt clean it before you got there. Being a PA car, you want to look for rust. Look inside the gas filler cap, inside the door jams, at the base of the inside of the doors, and under the hood. If its a rust bucket walk away. There are better ones to have. Make sure the parking brakes work. Put the brake on all the way and then see if they release.

Good luck and keep us posted.

yup thats the one bought it. It has rust in all the right places and none in any of the really bad places. Motor runs great. Transmission shifts like crap. Gonna make it a cecil county drag strip car. I will be posting about cutting weight in whatever forum section that stuff is supposed to go in
