Okay, so the other day I replaced my fuel pump (old one was some brand that started with a C or some shit) and buttoned everything back up.

First off, the pump was like a half an inch taller than the one I removed and was recommended I keep the stock fuel umm... buffer thing? looks kind of like a regulator but from what I gather it's supposed to keep the pump from hammering the fuel lines/injectors what-not...but anyways, it runs great, and has alot more power especially above 4k rpm's..

Okay, this is what it's doing... after sitting overnight, I start it to move it to get to another vehicle... I go back to her after about 20 minutes as I have to go somewhere.... go to start and she's hard to start unless I give a little throttle... then she runs a little rough. and spits some smoke out of the back and it smells like unburnt fuel...

If I rev it to the 4k shutoff it's slot to "buck" as where the old pump that was in there if I revved it like that, it was like zoom.zoom.zoom.zoom....

the new pump is like zoom.....zoom.....zoom.....zoom....

Make sense? Follow me here?

I still have power while it's in gear...

1995 ATX 207k+ Green.

I have replaced the cam sensor with a new one as my tach was being ******** but throwing no codes...

I used to have a bunch of codes thrown until I replaced my alternator, O2's and Cam Sensor..

I am wondering since that pump is taller if I might have a fuel leak in the tank because I had to slightly wedge and bend the holding clip in and the fuel dampener (if I am correct) was a tight fit once the pump was in..

It's the SHO Source 155LPH pump @ stock pressure...

I know I still need to do bearings, motor mount and need a trans (anyone have one they are willing to part with? lol) but I installed everything correctly (used floor cut method with my new pneumatic metal shears.. that was fast and fun and left me with a clean hole.. heh

My question is, should I remove that fuel dampener thinggie and just put fuel hose between the pump and the bracket or what, and what would that hurt doing that?

Thanks guys.. I love my ride... we might even sell the two other vehicles we have and use it as a down payment on the new sho.. my wife just loves the pics and everything she's read and seen on it.. lol

:thankyou:

When someone I know... :) (Hi Mikey) :) Replaced his FP they didn't get it seated in quite right.. and he had similar problems. This is what I found when we cracked it open..

P1050940

That little gap is enough... make sure its in there "square". I had to bend it out a little to pull the old pump out, and kind of bend it back, but she's been working fine since.

Also.. did you use a new rubber gasket under the lockring?

Yes, I used all the new parts except for the fuel hose and clamps.. still have 'em.. and I made sure the clip was seated and it looked like that pic with the exception of my clip being clicked in on both sides...

Should I just remove this? what is the real importance of this thing anyways?

No No.. its gotta be there.. it just came undone at some point, or it was never put in right in the first place, but that caused the same type of issue.

I think those things fit a little loose, but they appear to work I dunno?

It's there and not loose, but the tips of the hard lines went way inside because of how tall the pump is...... what should I do? and what is that thing's purpose?

Also, found this....

I did not reuse the pulse dampner. As a matter of fact, I couldn't. The pump I installed was longer than the factory and the pulse dampner wouldn't fit anyhow.

Don't worry about a wiring harness. Cut the wires and solder and heat shrink tube them together. Soldering them together is the only way to guarantee that you won't have to drop the tank again, which happened to a guy when I was at summit point. Car wouln'd run and he finally narrowed it down the the crimp on connections at the fuel pump.

Here is an old picture from way back. I think this was the 255 lph that I installed and have since taken out and put in a 190.

So, I Am not sure, and I did get the 155LPH pump from ShoSource and after it was installed I only had to pulse the key twice as I heard the pump move fuel and then hit pressure and then it fired right up first try... but I do think my dampener is leaking out of the rubber stoppers because the hose barbs on the pump and hard line comming in are past the rubber (inside the dampener) and leaking a little... I do have more power up high, but between 2500 and 4k I get a slight loss of power that I didn't have before with the shit pump that was in there.. heh
