Also over at the slo sight, someone dropped a Contour 5-speed onto a 3.0 duratech. To bad Ford never thought of offering it as an option.

Do you know who did this? I assume you mean TCCA, and I'm a post hog over there so I usually have my finger on the pulse of whats going on.

I know the Contour guys are doing 3.0L swaps as the 3.0 is but a bored out 2.5.

Oh dear, its Alex :nut:

Is that kind of like saying the SHO 3.4 is a SVT 2.5 with 2 more cylinders, whereas the SHO 3.4 came first? Maybe if they said Duratec 2.5 ;) Stupid Ford and their ba$tard engines.

Back to the matter at hand... Automatics pwn manuals.

isn't the 500-6 speed all about MPG?
they list it as 21 city - 29 hwy.
i can feel/smell that torque converter heating up now.
you know it needs a aux tranny cooler (because the stock one is nothing).
and, they do this so it will only last 75K miles.
the American way...our disposable society!

Nope, the 3.0 is a bored out 2.5... they literally took the Contour engine and bored it out to 3 liters for use in the Taurus/Sable as they felt the 2.5 did not put down enough torque. You can even take the heads off the 2.5 and drop them onto the 3.0 to get a higher compression ratio and more horsepower and torque. You can also port the 2.5 heads, using the 3.0 valves for more airflow.

You are a n00b. All your pwn4g3 are belong to me.

Either that or have never driven an MTX gen 2 SHO and an ATX gen 2 SHO and compared. Seriously, if you haven't driven an MTX SHO find one and drive it! The owners aren't that passionate about their cars for nothing.

My automatic is the king!!!!

the king of slippage...
the king of overheating!
the king of shady torque converter lockage!!!!
the king of internal organ rupturing cold shifts!!!

err, you get the point...

No but I have driven multiple 300+ HP manual cars. I still love my automatic more :finger:

Brad, aka Baby SHO was in the middle of said project. He got as far as mounting the MTX to the 3.0L Duratec, and fabbing a mount to the G3 subframe before plans... changed. :oogle:

And FWIW, I saw the drivetrain, mounted to the modified subframe, up close and in person. It's definitely doable.

That way you can drive with your Whopper in one hand, and the steering wheel in the other?

I drive my 5 speed Ranger daily. The benefits of a MTX are just too numerous...

My Gen 3 when done will:

1) Have shed 120 pounds in the front of the car.
2) Gained a gear ratio.
3) Gained back 5% of driveline losses of the slushbox...
4) Have a bigger grin when spanking a stock ATX Gen III...
5) Probably have better fuel economy to boot due to combinations of reasons 1 -3 above.

when someone finally finishes it to work out all the kinks, how much would such a swap cost? hey Scott, wanna do mine next?

Don't plan on going into business with this, but since no one was offering the service I was wanting I had to take it on myself.

To do the MTX up right (quiafe and other little things) and the custom axels I'm going to have about $2700 in it....
