Now that the public announcement has been made by Don, we can confirm that NESHOC has been promised a convention in New England no later than 2010.

We were informed on Monday about the decision (we actually knew last Saturday, but Don and Ken wanted to give people a couple extra days to vote on the SHO Club website). We knew going in that getting a convention plan together in a little over a week would be a struggle, and that Michigan was already the front-runner before we even considered putting the proposal together. We are satisfied with the decision considering the short notice upon which the entire proposal was put together, along with scheduling complications with New England Dragway that still remained up-in-the-air.

Don has been trying to get Kirk to put together a New England convention for a number of years now. He has resisted up until this year due to the consistent lack of attendance by NESHOC members at the past few conventions. Despite low turnout at the initial planning meeting, we felt that group of people were dedicated enough to the project to go forward with the process. These efforts were not fruitless, as we've been promised a future convention which gives us more time to put together an unforgettable experience, to hammer down the issues with NED, as well as plan to include an autocross event as part of the convention activities.

It is important for Kirk and I to thank everyone who helped with this project, including Mel Stimmel, Randy Caddell, Chris Dull, James Pappas, Erik Balser, Erik Tremblay and Jay Corsano. Your efforts were greatly appreciated and we look forward to working together when the New England convention year is announced! Naturally, we are grateful to Ken and Don Mallinson for their guidance, help and assistance in putting the convention proposal together!

It is also critical that as many NESHOC members (and people from New England in general) ATTEND NEXT YEAR'S CONVENTION IN MICHIGAN. If convention attendance by people from our area continue to be 2 or 3 people, Don, Ken, Kirk, and the rest of the planning committee are going to consider that as a very negative factor towards a New England convention. Seattle in 2008 is a bit off, but still if you start planning now it's all that more likely that you'll be able to make that convention too.

SHO Conventions aren't about the location, they are about the cars and the people that drive them. If you think a breakfast meet, BBQ, autocross or day at the track is a good time, just imagine that multiplied by several hundred percent. From the beginning of this process, Kirk and I have said that wherever next year's convention will be, we will be there. Pick a parking lot anywhere in the country, park a few dozen SHOs there with over a hundred people, and an unforgettable time is sure to be had by all.

If you consider yourself a SHO enthusiast, and like to have a good time with great people, then plan on making future conventions NOW regardless of the location.

See you in Kalamazoo in 2007! :thumb:

Chris, I couldn't have said it any better myself. Thank you for the continued effort.

And to reiterrate what Chris said, let's get together and plan a more substantive New England roll-out in '07. Like many of you, it too will be my first convention.

I plan on trailering out behind my van, if anyone has any concerns at that point about their cars' ability to make the trip you'd then have a contingency plan.

Looking forward to some positive discussion on this in the near future!

You'll assume responsibility that they're a posse of bonefaces? Eh, screw 'em.

NED is extremely picky. I know they only will allow 1 lane, on certain days, for a higher price... Wish we had others around.

if Kirk can race a rental car, I'm sure you can race the L. **** my buddy and I may race our bikes if they'll allow that.
