Hey guys:(
Only went 1400 miles before the engine seized. Cam sprocket totally ripped out of right hand cam...definite new oil leak I think its coming from the head. Since its been on the concrete I have watched the oil spot get progressively bigger. Cried a whole day. Then I found a sho in a yard out here it had just got there, less than 100k on car. Engine has no leaks at all all fluids clear spark plug test was amazing engine turns over.leather still soft this car must of never spent a night outside till it got to the yard....here's my question:
Should I even bother taking off my new parts like cam sensor, ignition coil pack, and computer chip upgrades over? Should I want till engine is in the car? And also should I take out my wiring harness and put it on engine before putting it in the car? Am I crazy to even try? I don't really have a choice however not enough money to buy a new car and had to borrow the 260 to get new motor anyway . I didn't pull the harness with the motor cause the extra cost was not affordable. Where can I find the rusty kendall oil can genie so I can wish the motor in? Any suggestions boys? Or advice lol?

You didn't take the harness with the motor? Anything that is a pain in the ass to access when it's in the engine bay, replace now. I would do seals too but I see $ is tight. Leave the chip out for now until you're sure it's running correctly.

I had just done the seals on the old motor lol so yeah the cost is not affordable at the moment, but at least I know I center get it done in a fraction of the time this time....ugh...... I'll be popping off top cover to check to see where we are on them I actually have a feeling they might have been done rather recently just because of the perfectly maintained everywhere else condition of the car. Got really lucky I think. So wire engine before dropping the motor check. Any hints on the magic oil can ?

I assume the car you found is also a 3.2?

Your engine seized? Does it still crank over? Seems like an odd failure. Or did the bolts for the cam gear shear off? It is a non-interference engine, so it would still be okay.

You can move the new parts over, or keep them for spares if you'd like. It is much easier with the engine out. You might want to change the rear main, and front main and cam seals on the engine, but if they aren't leaking, that's your call.

Edit: What year is the car? The engine/injector harness is *probably* the same, so if it's the same year I wouldn't bother swapping it.

Shawna, I would swap in the engine harness when the engine is out, since that is a pain, but the other stuff you can just harvest off your old engine and keep for the future.

I would expect to have to do valve cover gaskets, water pump, and timing belt on the "new" motor, as I mentioned on the phone.

Call me regarding what to do with your 'old' engine, when you get a chance.

Hey guys:)
The bolts on the cam sheared off and lost the dowel and after careful inspection they were in completely as far as I can tell. My car and the junker are both 3.2 but I only have my harness intact.

My newest ? Is I took off the side of the intake on "new" motor and noticed some oil inside. I'm always still learning and wondered wtf is that normal? I removed the side to open top timing cover all seals look pretty good almost new no oil leaks there so I think I'm OK to skip those two for now. Should I do something about the intake or is that a bad sign? Should I use my intake ? What are other things I can inspect on the new motor? New motor has 89,000 miles on it.....

Edit both cars are early 1993s manufactured in Nov and Dec of 92

Pooling oil or oil residue? The intake can get a little gunky over many years. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it looks like alot of oil. Which is tough to try and describe on the interwebs. Really subjective stuff can be cleared up alot of the time with decent pictures.

Sheared cam sprocket bolt won't harm the engine. All it did was stop it from running because the timing belt came off. I'm still trying to figure out why you're replacing the engine?

The old Engine has problems and always has. There's a moderate oil leak that I cannot find and it causes the car to smoke always while driving. I got the new motor for 260 which was about 160 more than the left cam and head. The new motor only has 89k seemed like too good of a deal to pass. Its clean no leaks. I can only do so much of the mechanics myself and when I cant do something that's when my 6'7 husband comes out to help. Let's face it, he hates my car. His hands are to big to do anything without getting cut the f up, among other various issues. He has a bad habit of half passing things he doesnt benefit directly from. Always wants to do shit the easy way and faces the consequences later. My motor has 170k so I figured it was a good opportunity to pull the sucker out and either rebuild it myself out of the car or sell it off. Between my father who owned the car before me and myself, we have dropped over 5k In new parts and sensors and all sorts of shit. Alternator cats Maf sensor cam sensor, seals, pulleys power steering speedo cables vss master cylinder fricking everything has been replaced its ridiculous. Like I've said before , its times like this I hate the fact that I love my car. I should change my name to showna. Lol. To me the engine swap is worth it. Like it was meant to be. This will be the third engine in this car, third times a charm. *

the sho motor will get oil in the intake because the oil separation for the pcv system is not as effective as it should be, so some oil in the intake is "normal" for these (and most any engine). it should be drained out and the intake cleaned for optimal performance.

to avoid a repeat, you can change the routing of the pcv air, and add a catch-can to better separate the oil out of the pcv flow. be aware that you need to empty the catch-can from time to time, or it will just fill up and then the oil will continue on into the intake anyway. ;)

please edit that post and remove the cl link - they are not allowed.

I looked at that one also on cl and had a little chuckle to myself.....

I guess you should have asked him how a V8 has only 6 spark plugs...
