From what i've heard, most of the cost of a new y-pipe is in the cats. After the labor of cutting out the old cats and welding in the new ones, it might be less to just get a new y-pipe and bolt it on.

I'm not sure I follow you. Are you considering splicing in some new cats on another y-pipe? Your y-pipe will be a jigsaw puzzle.

Here's my opinion: For what you will spend on two Magnaflow cats and the price of labor splicing them into your exhisting y-pipe... you may as well get the whole Magnaflow catted y-pipe.

You'll definitely notice a boost in torque in the lower ranges.

Talk to a local muffler shop of your choice. The one I use stocks several Magnaflow cats. They can also give you an estimate on labor too. It will work. Just not sure how much you'll really save and if the end result will be optimal. Sometimes its worth spending a little more money to do it right.

--just my opinion.
