I just picked up a new mocha 91, and she's having problems getting fired. Supposedly, it idles (but we couldn't get it to), but when you give her gas, she dies. It's getting fuel to schrader, checked that tonight. Any ideas?

My man, My man, THIS IS THE CAR I WAS TELLING YOU ABOUT SATURDAY!!!! And people don't listen to me

. Anyways, from the sounds of it, it could be ignition related, not having the juice to fire the plugs after you goose it. Could also be poor timing, could be the tensioner let go and is letting the timing belt grab sometimes... It has a new computer so that takes the engine control out of the picture. CPS is done, but nowhere do I see the timing belt done... Good luck with it!

I`m guessing it doesn`t have a CEL?It sounds like the MAF(will idel but die with throttle)but that throws a code.If you`re thinking timing, check the crank pulley for a worn keyway too.Good luck Fred!BTW,why are these SHO`s so cheap in RI?

$800, Framingham MA. Found it on an eBay auction. I'm hoping it's simple, as I need a driver, not a parts car. Talked with the owner last night, and we both agreed - no such thing as a $100 fix on a SHO...

Walk to the front of the car and open the hood. Throw vast amounts of money into the engine bay. Problems no more!

Seems to work with all the SHO's that I've encountered with problems.

Back in Michigan ... again.
Perhaps the throttle position sensor? Or maybe the idle air control? I know on my first 60k I forgot to plug the IAC back in and the car wouldn't idle at all.

I'm assuming that it doesn't have an EGR being a non-Californina 3.0, yes?

Plugs were SUBMERGED in oil, all but 1 (back center). Vacuumed out first (Scott).

Cyl. 1, 2, 5, 6 were Motorcraft AGSP32PP's. Cyl 3 was an autolite , cyl. 4 was a Champion. Pulled my first cam cover too.(front). It's all fear factor.

Idled for a second. On re-fire, had it floored, wants to go but dies. Eric thinks its timing. Swapped the TPS, no go. We're in the process of checking the timing belt, etc. (battery pulled, upper cover off). Timing belt has some play. We're going to do the CKP since we're there anyway, even though it was done 20k ago.

I have a "bad" cleanable IAC from my 95. I'll give that a go after cleaning it up.

I spent the day doing a leisurely swap, and it was VERY pleasureable. None of the typical "gotta get it running" stress. I forgot how much fun it could be.
