Recently my sho decided not to come out of park after starting it. I now have to turn the ignition not to start just before put it in neutral start it then I can move the shifter if I do not do it this way you won't get it out of park. Neutral switch a friend said is gone in it. Okay then where the h is it and how hard is it to replace this. I will do it myself I am tried of the repair shops around here seeing a sho and oh boy there goes the cost up. I use to work on my own cars years ago I will just find the time again to do it besides the kids and farm to run. Hope you all can explain where and what to do?
Thanks

The problem, if I read your post properly, is not the neutral position switch, but rather the shift interlock for the ATX shift lever.

Any shop that has worked on a Taurus should be capable of handling the repair on this job. The solenoid requires the brake light switch to be operational. A solenoid then pulls a lever to release the shift lever.

If you use the SEARCH feature in this forum using "shift interlock" as your parameter, you will find a couple of threads in which this was discussed and the experinces of the posters.

Failure of F1 (15A) in the instrument panel fuse box will **** the brake lights and the hazard lights. If your hazard flashers work, the fuse is okay and the problem is likely the BOO (Brake On/Off) switch or the wiring connections to the switch.. This switch is located either on the brake pedal itself or is connected in some way to the pedal or the piston. Sorry, don't have a 93 to look at.

This should give you enough info to either find the problem or to decide that the proble is to be left for a shop.

93bluesholady,

If you can raise kids and run a farm you can do anything. OK, you do not have the owners manual or a shop manual for your model year. How far away is the nearest library?

Most libraries have automotive service manuals such as Chiltons, Mitchels, Motors, Haynes, and others. If you want the "official" Ford service manual for your Taurus SHO, it is published for Ford by Helm at 1-800-782-4356, or Helm Inc. P.O. Box 07150, Detroit, MI 48207. You want the Taurus/Sable manuals for your model year, i.e. 93. (it will pay for itself)

Bizzy, MaMa M, SHO & Vette, and any of our other lady forum members chime in hear with words of encouragement. You can successfully do the work on your SHO if you have the gumpshun.

If anybody tells you you can't, tell them "bovine excrement". rangerj thumbs_u
