Ok, we're less than 2 weeks away. It's now time for all those planning on going and participating in a caravan to stand up and be counted. Not surprisingly a number of people who said they were going aren't, which is why we didn't want to start putting this together until now.

Please reply to this thread indicating that you plan on being part of the caravan, and please note if you have an FRS radio. Including your email address and a contact phone number would be helpful too, but you can PM me that info if you don't want to post it in the thread.

We are still undecided on departure day and time, as well as the route. Kirk and I will try to get that all hammered out by this weekend.

Here's the current list:

Kirk D.
Chris A.
James P.
Ian M. (and Reka)

I'm in. I've got a 2 or 3 FRS radios too. I just have to find it.

And I'll be all out hammered this weekend too. Just like last weekend.

Ian, drop me a PM when you get a chance. I don't know if Beth has talked to you yet, but we're trying to see if maybe we could talk you and Reka into coming out here first so one of you can drive her V8 car to Indy.

Just to make it official, I'm in.

Any ideas yet as to when we're leaving? I personally would like to be there by Sunday afternoon if only to hang out and get a jump on the weeks' activities. I would be up for and prefer anytime on Saturday. It could be morning, afternoon, early evening. But if it's Sunday, that's no problem. I've got family renting a beach cottage over these 2 weeks, so I'll spend Saturday there if you guys would rather do Sunday.

Ok, here are the "Official" travel plans:

We will be departing NESHO (320 Main St, Spencer, MA 01562) at 7:00AM SHARP on Sunday the 17th. (In Kirk's words, "Tell them that doesn't mean 7:01 or 7:10, anyone who isn't there and ready to leave at 7:00 will have to catch up!")

Ideally, it would be best if everyone arrived at about 6:45AM to allow time for a quick route review, picking an FRS channel, exchanging cell phone numbers, etc. Please arrive with a full tank of gas, any refreshments you'll desire, etc. Depending on the direction you'll be coming from, there are a couple of gas stations with good gas prices and pretty good stores: Cumberland Farms at the intersection of Rte's 56 and 9 in Leicester, and Hess on Rte 9 about 1/2 mile east of Rte 49. We're going to try to do the trip in ~4 hour legs. We'd like to try to minimize unscheduled stops as much as possible. We'll be covering about 870 miles. Our expectation is to arrive in Indy around 7-8:00PM (IST - Indiana Screwy Time).

Right now, our route takes us down I-84, to I-81, and then either to I-80, or possibly to the PA Turnpike to avoid construction on I-80, and/or possibly to meet up with some more caravanees, through to Indy. Since the PA Turnpike is a toll road, please don't forget to bring a few extra bucks for tolls, or your EZ-Pass (which is what we'll be using). Ultimately, the route will be decided as we go along, mostly at Kirk's discretion.

I will have a spare FRS radio if someone needs to borrow it. Everyone else, don't forget batteries for your radios! Kirk and I will be bringing a small number of tools, and we hope to not have to use them. Hopefully nobody would venture on a 1800+ mile adventure with a car that wasn't up to the task!

I've put together a quick check-list of things everyone might want to use in preparation for this trip:

CAR PREP:

o Maintenance check, fluids, filters, brakes, alignment, lights/bulbs, etc.
o Tire pressure check, including spare (good time to put the jack back in the trunk!)
o Clean windows
o Spare fluids
o Compressor Oil*

PERSONAL ITEMS:

o License and Registration
o Clothes
o Toiletries
o Toe Nail Clippers*
o Barf Bag*
o Hotel Confirmation Numbers, Convention paperwork, etc.
o Map Book

OTHER ITEMS

o Racing helmet, shoes, etc.
o AAA Card
o Bail Money*
o Radar Detector
o Money, Money, Money

(*These items are only applicable to certain individuals!)

Hopefully a fun and safe time will be had by all. Kirk and I are unsure about when we'll be leaving to head home, so we'll just play it by ear. It would be nice to have a caravan home too, but we realize some people may have other plans or may not be staying as long as others.

Kirk also has a spare room booked at the Marriott from the 17th through the 21st (checking out Friday the 22nd). It's about $520 for the week IIRC. If anyone needs this room, please speak up now, otherwise he'll be calling to release the reservation on Friday morning, 7/15.

If I've missed anything, please let me know!

Are you coming down I-71?

Chris:

Are current plans to take I-71 south past my place and into C-Bus to grab I-70 to Indy?

If so we may be interested in travelling with you as you come past me at about 4-5 PM based on my calculations....

Scott

That possibility did come up yesterday Scott, and I don't see why not. He was planning on touching base w/you, but it probably wouldn't hurt for you to call him some time this week to coordinate it.

Caravan Update

We will still be leaving Spencer at 7:00AM on Sunday as scheduled, however as of now there will only be two vehicles leaving from there, Kirk and I in his truck towing his SHO, and James in his V. (My car was rear-ended on the distressway on Sunday, and while the damage isn't bad, I just really didn't feel like driving it to Indy looking like A-S-S.)

We will be meeting Josh Teixeira and Ian Macoomb (and their better halves) somewhere at the intersections of I-90 and I-81 in Syracuse, right around 10:00AM if anyone else would like to join us there.

From there, the route is a little up-in-the-air, as we're waiting to talk to Terri H. about her plans.

However we leave from Syracuse, we plan on being in the Columbus, OH area around 5:00PM or so to meet Scott and Sarah K. (and even I remembered the h...) and then making the bee-line for Indy to get in around 6:00-6:30PM Indy time.

Everyone participating should plan on calling Kirk (508-963-5899) Friday afternoon to confirm everything. Anyone thinking about joining us somewhere along the way should call too.

CONVENTION DEPARTURE PLANS

Kirk needs to be back in Spencer, MA by about 6:00PM on Friday 7/22 for a fundraiser for some people he knows who lost their home to fire a few weeks ago. That means we'll probably be rolling out of Indy at 5:00AM Friday. Once again, anyone wishing to caravan for the ride out of Indy is welcome to join in, but plan on leaving right at 5.

See everyone there!

Somebody want to have Don M update the SHOClub website? The MA caravan info is in hiding there. :)

Looks like I'm heading out Tuesday AM very early for a straight line run to the Putnam Park area directly, and leaving for home on Thurdsay early am. If anyone wants to be Bandit to my Snowman on either day, lemme know.

Ok, we're ready to hit the road right at 7AM tomorrow!

Kirk will have his truck and trailer with the red '95 on it. I will have a ****-green '93 Sable that we're bringing out for Joseph van Oss, James will have his black CTS-V, and Tim (Blue Thunder) will have his blue '95. Those are the cars I know of. Anyone else is welcome to join along, just be at the shop before 7!

Kirk and I will probably not be online during the week, so don't expect to hear from us until at least Monday 7/25. Everyone else going to the convention have a safe trip and we'll see you there!
