The bolt that connects the shifter to the tranny popped off the other day (oops!)... I need to know what size/length bolt I need... Anything else you can tell me about this would help... I'm not really experienced.... :hail:

thanks!

edit: it's a 1990 mtx, don't know if that makes a difference or not... Did some more research, is sounds like the 'term' for it, is the Shifter Rod... so, I need to know the size of the bolt that connects the shifter rod to the transmission...

Well, this post has been here for 2 days and nobody's replied, which is odd... I'm just gonna go to a hardware store and get a few bolts, hopefully I'll get 1 that's right, I have a feeling it SHOULD be 15 or 17mm, but I have no idea on how long it should be... If anyone could help me with that, I'd appreciate it, thanks! I'll keep u guys posted in case anyone wants the info for their records or whatnot.

sorry. I just saw this post. If I'm not mistaken you are talking about the shift stabilizer shaft bolt and I think it is an M12X1.5 about 140mm long. I had to buy one of those too but it was a while ago so I'm not 100% sure on that being the correct size.

its an obsolete item.

I have my car torn apart right now, and that bolt on the workbench. Ill take it to work tomorrow to see if I can find something that will match up. :thumb:

obsolete item? how do you mean?

I tried an M12x1.5, and I think it was too small... when I had it screwed in, I could just wiggle it out... and actually, the longest bolt I could find was 100mm... it might've been too short too... I was gonna try an M12x1.75, but nappa was closed when I went there, and there aren't any good hardware stores around here...

anyways... If anyone has one lying around I can buy off 'em... let me know

If anyone has the Ford part number I may be able to look up the size. Even if the part is obsolete.

Well, I found out the diameter and thread pitch.

M12 1.75

Im assuming it is 140mm long. But the longest we stock at work in M12 is 100mm

Heck, I even checked out the local industrial hardware supply store. Same story, longest they stock is 100.

Good luck finding this one.
