Need to buy new Summer Tires!

When I bought my 2017 SHO with the performance package . It came with 245/45R20 Pirelli PZero performance tires. I wanted to see if I go with the same tires (which I like how they handled) or try some Michelin tires MXM4? What are your thoughts?

Looking at the treadwear rating I would go with PZero 220 treadwear all day over the 500 treadwear of the MXM4.

Not knowing what size you want, there's more inexpensive summer tires like the BFG G-Force, and Hankook evo v12s. Although I prefer the 200 treadware Rivals, RS4s and equivalent.

Best are in the 200-300 treadware range, 300-400 is OK.
Over 400......NO! And no "all season" for summer.

Those MXM4, besides being overpriced Michelins, are a/s and a godawful treadware.

I run separate summer/winter tires. Personally I don't want summer tires that last more than 2 seasons. They are getting heat cycled and hard by then. Since I do a few track days each summer, the 200 treadware tires I've had don't last over 8-10k, but I've gotten 15k-20k out of the evo v12s, and that's about perfect.

BFG Comp G2’s are nice. The Conti DW’s are nice as well!
If you plan to modify the car and put down anything north of 450hp/tq the Nitto 555 R II’s are great!

I'm running Nitto NT555 G2 tires on my stock car. They never chirp, and they have channels in the center to push water out of the way. Love how they handle in the rain.

I decided on the 275/45r20 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires. This tire has a 340 treadwear, temp A, traction A, and comes with 10/32" tread depth in this size. With 20,347 miles, mostly all highway, on them as of today, they still have just a hair over 5/32" and have been performing extremely well.

I only got 3 summers out of them and that is maybe 20000 miles. I have winter tires that I put on in November and throw them back on the middle of April. And Canadian prices suck.. looking and 403 CDN a tire

Those are two completely different tires. The Pirelli is a summer high performance tire and the Michelin is an all season tire. Are you wanting a performance tire or all season? A summer performance tire will always have a lower treadwear rating than an all season due to the obvious different compound for the use. There seems to be a misunderstanding at what the treadwear rating means. The higher the treadwear number the longer the tire will last. Obviously performance tires are a softer compound designed for greater traction so they don't last as long. An all season has a higher treadwear rating because its a harder compound designed for longevity over performance. I use Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S's which have set the bar for high performance summer tires. So you need to decide whether you're looking for a performance or all season tire and go from there.

Keep in mind that those "OEM" Pirelli PZero's are likely not the same as the retail versions. OEM tires are built to a price by the tire company the car manufacturer contracts, they may be similar but not the same performace level of a retail tire.

The "retail" tires are lower performers than the OEM specifics. You can look up the tires you want on tirerack.com and it will indicate which ones are a manufacturer specific design. You'll notice that all the "manufacturer specific" tires cost more because they're higher performance than the off-the-shelf retail models. Michelin and Pirelli make model specific tires for Mercedes, BMW and the Corvette with higher performance metrics as required by those cars.

How many miles did you get out of those?

They are good for about 30K. I take them off in the middle of November and put my Blizzak snow tires (17" wheels") and put them back on the end of March. It's my DD so they aren't really abused and mostly highway mileage. They are really good in the rain as well as very sticky on dry pavement. I've had 2 sets on my 2015 PP.

It seems odd to me that the Perelli's are so much heavier than a Conti DSW 06 Plus.

Looking at rotational mass alone, I think I might go that route, even though they aren't a strictly summer tire... 5-7 lbs. per tire is quite a bit in the end.

Is there anyone that has ran the firehawk or perelli and the conti's that can "weigh in" on sticky summer vs. light all season? (I'm a Dad, so it should go without saying but, pun intended)

There are a lot of members on here that run the DSW 06 and 06plus year round and at the drag strip. They seem to be an excellent tire. Right now I think tire rack has them for $210 a tire.

After I went to pirelli p7 cilauntro plus 2s tires Ill have trouble going back got a 70k nike warrenty and work all season around the $189-$210 range as well

Yeah, that's why I brought it up, I'm wondering if the lighter Conti can out 60' the summer tires because they are lighter.

Someone has tested and knows the answer, we just have to find out who.

If you drive a lot of miles the Conti DWS06 is the way to go or you'll be paying the tire store like a slot machine.

I just put some Pilot sport 4s on, best pavement tires I've ever owned.
