hi, my front and rear struts and springs are shot and i need new ones to pass inspection. im looking for the cheapest way. i do not care about performace or ride. i do care about quality and cost. i want to keep it as cheap as possible. called autozone. would be about 250 plus tax to get all the parts. are there any group buys, or used peices laying around? please let me know what you would suggest. thank you

New struts and springs all-around for $250, that's a steal!

RockAuto has the monroe quickstruts (struts+springs+bushings+boots+isolaters+mounts pre-assembled) for roughly $130 each.

At the time that i bought them, monroe had a buy 3 get the 4th one free promotion, so i ended up paying just under $400 for all for corners.

The current promotions for monroe can be found here if you are interested.

Others have gone with the slightly cheaper do-it-yourself option. This involves getting the struts and springs seperately and putting it all together yourself. Monroe SensaTracs and KYB GR-2 are the popular/affordable OEM style struts, and the Moog Cargo Coils are the popular/affordable springs. Dont forget to get all of the other little parts that might need to be replaced when swapping suspension.

I wouldn't recommend going with used pieces because they may end up also failing the inspection, and the amount of labor involved will make you cringe if you are in the rust zone. But if you can get them for free or next to nothing, and labor is not an issue for you, it may be worth your while to go that route.

Curious, what kind of inspection is this?

Yea, $250 is cheap. I just upgraded my frontonly. I replaced:
strut mounts/bearings - $95 from Napa
moog cargo coils - $75 from Napa
Monroe SensaTrac Struts - $140ish from Schucks

Not cheap, but the ride quality is definetly awesome in comparison to the worn out factory suspension.

So where can you get them cheap? In manitoba I called piston ring he said just for the strut would be $93 and the mounts were like 58. Seems kinda steep to me.
