well at 450 bucks for a SHO you can hardly go wrong... but I would stay away from autozone alts. AAP alts are marginally better, and NAPA is better still.

Honestly, I'd take it to a starter/alt rebuild shop and have it redone there. I'd trust one of those far more.

I got tired of replacing the damn cheapies about every year. The last one I bought was from NAPA with a lifetime warranty. It is going on 6 years now with no problems.

I think this is the one I got

FWIW, the NAPA Gold alternator I installed on my 94 (back when it was still Jerry's) lasted only two or three years before crapping out.

Fortunately, I had replaced the alternator on my original 94 ATX with a unit from AutoZone. Since the warranty was still in their system, I let them replace it. It's still working after almost three years.

I'm going on two years on an AAP alt, but it's starting to die out when it gets hot... puts out 14.5V when it first starts and tapers off to about 12.5-13V when it's hot... I think the IVR is going south...

Yeah I myself would probably take it in and have it rebuilt depending on the cost difference between one with a lifetime, but I thought I would throw it out there,

We used to have a decent amount of "Official" Wi meets in the summer but lately we havent been doing much, a couple of them usually end up at my house drinking on the weekends

Also check out WISHOC, Wisconsin SHO Club, here on the forum its the last section on the main page :thumb:

Really, any motor rebuild shop can do it. Alt/starter rebuild shops will probably be cheaper, but a motor is a motor (is a reverse generator).
