The Gen 3 outer boot fits over the rack better, I believe. But I didn't try the Gen 2 boot to see how it would work.

Then you are using the gen 2 rack as well. Then there is no modification needed.

No I have the ZF rack im 100% positive on that one! Came with my gen 3 SHO subframe. Says ZF right on it and steers a whole lot different than stock :munch: I know what I put in my car:salute:

They are slightly different I know that, but it does work and I havent had any problems with mine in over a year. I know its not the best way to do it with the gen 2 shaft and the gen 3 ZF rack but they do go together and align correctly if done right. Anyone else using the gen 1 or 2 steering shaft on a ZF rack? I think Adam is but im not sure.

I think the main reason, if I can remember correctly, was that the gen3 shaft had better geometry and not as much slop as the gen2 shaft??? James I think your correct about one being splined and the other one not, but the size and shape is the exact same and so is the location for the bolt that holds the shaft to the rack.

Maybe I just do things the way they "should" be done. The Gen 3 shaft is SUPERIOR to the Gen 1/2 designwise, so I've never put in a ZF rack without one. Too many of the Gen 1/2 shafts are wore out by now. I was under the impression by rack design anyways that they were different. They are SO easy to get, I dont get what the big deal of doing 20 minutes worth of extra work to make it right is all about.

Guess I'm just picky

James Your right, and I too am picky about the parts that I put on my car and making sure its done correctly. When I did my subframe swap it was in a hurry because I blew my clutch straps out. I planned on getting the gen3 shaft but didnt have the time being a full time college student. And after it was hooked up with the gen 2 shaft I felt it unnecessary to change to the gen 3 shaft. Since mine has no play in it at all. Just saying that the gen 1/2 shaft WILL work, is it correct? not quite, does it work with no adverse affects? Yeah, as long as the shaft is in good condition and not worn out.

You typed yours in while I was typing mine. lol At least we agree...

Haha yeah I thought we probably did! :nut: If I felt there was something wrong I would have changed it and I probably will when I’m done with school soon and the car goes under the knife  I agree the gen 3 shaft is the best way to go but I thought I would clear up that you don’t have to change to the gen3 shaft gen 1/2 will work.

Edit: James must drink beers again sometime!! As long as Steve doesn’t drunkenly disappear for 45min with my car looking for an open liquor store! Haha:beer:

Maybe... The one I drove with coilovers was terrible, but then again the ride height was too low.

My spring rates are not crazy high and my car is not Slammed. If my car was Slammed, There would be absolutely no hope for properly corner balancing the car for a 50% Crossweight. My current ride is really not all that bad.
