i need some advice on re-doing my sidemirrors, they are oxidized and they look really crappy. is there any polishes/rubbing compounds that could work? or do i need to sand it all the way down, prime and paint it? heres a pic of one

Someone on the forum here buffed them up with a buffer and they looked amazing. A search may give you the answer. There are also a few people who got them painted and that looks good too.

to take the mirrors off do u just take the 3 10mm bolts inside the door panel off? and where does the wiring harness unplug at? i can get them painted by my friends dad (he owns a body shop) for free if i take them in to him. i do have a different car to drive for the while that they are off, so i dont really care how long they are off, and should i get them satin black like the one trim things on the doors, or gloss black?

i tried the polishing thing with a buffer, and it didnt work for me, i think they are a little too far gone for that.....

The wire harnesses are down inside the door. You will need to remove the door panel to get at all the wiring that needs to be disconnected in order to remove the mirrors. I am saying that you could go find some mirrors at a junkyard from a Red Taurus GL (did they make a red?) and swap them on there. I wasn't saying getting your present one painted. Much cheaper.

no i dont believe that there was a red (at least non sho) taurus made, they were more of a dark red/burgundy type color. thats what my old gen 2 SLO was. i know what u meant by getting one from a junkyard, but my work is free, and so is the paint, so whats cheaper than free? :thumb:

heres the only red color of SLO's that i have ever seen made:

and thats what happens to a taurus when u go upside down in a 6 foot deep ditch at 65mph on gravel....... :thumb: thats my old beater, god i beat the living **** outta that car.......

Hahaha you should see my old slo...i did a whack job to the front so i gave it a futuristic purple hood, which i felt matched the silver nicely. Also it featured a hood latch spacer custom fabricated out of two by fours. Currently It is growing a coat of some sort of green plant/animal life in my grandparents driveway.

That's why I want a red Gen 2... That's what I had, and it will forever remain my favorite car. Sure, a TT Supra may be faster, and better in everyway, but nothing will ever take away my love for that car. It's a shame too. Totaled at less then 9 mph, and STILL RAN STRONG. I drove it off of the trailer at Murph's place. Won't Gen I mirrors fit as well? They're color matched...
