Is there anyone in the Houston area that I can buy/swap some shims from. I've needed to do the adjustment for a a couple of years now. I wasted 250 dollars on shobrosgarage.com and I never got the shims. I have the tools needed to do the adjustment, just not the shims.

Contact SHOBill He has a shim kit he rents out.

The deal is that renting SHOBill's shim assortment will cut your valve adjustment labor nearly in half, and time to complete the job in half because when you remove an out of spec shim , you'll have the correct size replacement shim right there in the kit to slip back in.

Without a kit, you have to remove an out of spec shim, note what size it is, and then put it back in place until you obtain the replacement. When the replacement comes in, you get to remove that shim a second time to install the new one. Having a few shims on hand helps make it feasible to swap shims around to reuse them in another location as much as possible, but it's very likely you will need a half dozen or so new ones. I did not use Bill's kit because I already have the tools, and it was cheaper that way. But I paid for it in extra labor and time to complete the job. You can use 29 mm motorcycle shims from www.dual-star.com, but I found them cheaper on the shelf at my local Kawasaki dealer.
