For those not familiar with my issues, it started as bad gas mileage and just progressed until the SHO don't go. I've had ASE certified and shade tree mechanics look at it and they all want to cut the cats out and put in strait pipe, but nobody wants to actually do it b/c of the tight fit. :frown:

I am just going to bite the bullet and just take the car down to Rainbow Muffler in Largo, FL to have them put in new O2s and new cats. My issue now is that they want to replace the entire Y-pipe b/c the say it would be too difficult to cut them out b/c of the funky bends under there. Now please remember that I am very new to the SHO and not much of a mechanic (at all). Does this sound logical or am I being scammed? Mitchell Motorsports here in town recommended them and the guy I spoke with seemed to know enough about the SHO to me. They quoted me a price of $350 to $400 for the Y-pipe and about $100 - $150 form labor (Y-pipe and O2s). What should I look for as far as the parts they are using and such to make sure they are not going to screw me over? I really, really like this car and want it to run as strong as it can. Please help me make sure we keep another on the road blowing the doors off any and all comers.
Thanks in advance for any help or insight you can provide.

Post a Wanted to Buy ad on the forum here. Im sure you can get a good used y-pipe for under $50. The O2 sensors are like $40.00 each, you can get them at most Auto Chains. Bring the parts in and have them install it. Should save you quite a bit doing it this way.

you can also buy high flow convertors online for roughly $60 each. i had high flows installed on my stock y-pipe with it still on the car. Sawz-All and a seasoned contortionist welder can fix you up.

No time for online buy

I'm in a bit of a jam now. I need to get my car up and running by next Fri. My girlfriend just got a new nurse gig over in tampa. I have to get the sho into the muffler shop and be on the road buy next thur at the latest. I spent too much time trying to get the cheaper solution and just became complaicent driving that F***KING Kia. (God I hate that car) I kept thinking that I would find a cheap solution next week, or the next week.
Anyway I have just over $700 to sink into the y-pipes and whatnot. Is there anything I should look for or ask for when ordering the pipe tomorrow? What should I avoid?
Thanks

I'm back baby!!
Took the sho the Rainbow Muffler and they found a y-pipe from Goelich's in NC for $350 includes shipping. Charged me $500 with install of y-pipe and O2s. I e-mailed Midwest and they told me that a High flow would not give any performance upgrade.
Got the car back on Fri afternoon and I am so stocked to be back on the road.
It seems that the O2s and clogged cats were the problem all along. The SHO is running strong, shifting good, and idleing great.
Still have a host of other problems with it, but they will be done as more $ comes in.
