need help with strange knock

This knock just showed up last night with out any warning.
it makes no noise sitting still, but when moving I get a slow tap that increases with spead and also increasses volume with the clutch pressed in. any idea what could cause this. It seems to drive normally, but I don't like knocks and want this one gone.
its a hollow sound like a metal object rubbing on a rotating shaft.
i will get under neithe it tomorrow I have to get my jack stands back,tried my ramps but they were no good.

I have recently got a tapping sound that became apparent maybe last week. I can not hear the sound at start-up or idle or even when the car is in park or neutral while revving the engine. But the tapping also increases with the rpm's while driving, as does yours, right around 2500-3000 rpm's it is the loudest. I am going to be taking my car to my mechanic tomorrow morning to let them hear it while on the lift. Hopefully I will be able to then tell if the sound is comming from the top(valves) or the bottom(rod bearings). I am wishing for the valves. cry But either way, I don't like the sound either, but something has to be done to fix it. rant
