So my car has been sitting around for close to a year now and I started it up every chance I could, 1-2 months, everything was fine until this month. I took the car around the block, like usual, but this time the car smelled funny and when I went to check under the hood I saw smoke coming from between the valve cover and the heads. I'm thinking it is a bad headgasket maybe blown valve gaskets, but that's why I came here for some confirmation before I took any drastic actions. It is a 92 mtx and it has been sitting for close to a year and I think that's when things went bad. Thanks for your help.

It's probably leaking oil from the cam cover and dripping onto the exhaust manifold.
Try tightening the cam cover or remove it and reseal it.

There is no oil leaking onto the manifold, the oil level stays the same, there is just smoke coming from between the valve cover and the seal. I am assuming that nothing is supposed to come through there so I am thinking it is bad valve cover gaskets. The weird thing is that I changed out the valve cover and spark well gaskets about 8 months ago, so would the car sitting for so long make the gaskets dry? Thanks for you advice mrecoolgar

my 94 atx does the same thing after it gets good and hot. my v-c gaskets are new and it doesn't leak anything. i think it's blow by since yamaha in their genius brains didn't put a pcv in it. ever notice how the intakes always get plugged up, this is also from the lack of a pcv.
