My SHO's up in the air, tankless and fuel pump less. The shop said it wouldn't fit. Now I've been checking some sources and found a writeup about the 190lph pump installation and cutting a bit of the top metal hose? I have a Walbro 155lph pump, the top of the pump is longer than stock.

But as well, I read this post http://www.shoforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=17;t=002320
And specifically, this part HAS to come off? Or can it stay on? Scott said to keep it on if possible

But everyone else pulled theirs out?

What do I tell the shop to do? Do I even have the right pump? JDSPerformance number(stock number?) is 5CA249-2. The part number on the pump is 516 10002-1B

I hope there's a way to make it work, otherwise I'm bending over and going to have to take it for a stock, fuel sending unit assembly replacement! eek!

half-way there, I think.
Mine is gone - I removed when I replaced the pump for the same reason. No problems that I have ever noticed. My 89' didn't even have it when I replaced the pump.

WOW! That's your dynoplot!!! eek! thumbs_u
Ok, so you removed it and your pump fit in perfectly? Did you cut the metal tub at the top at all? And you said you've noticed no problems at all then? Which pump did you use by the way?
Thanks!! thumbs_u

No trimming, just a little bending as I recall. I had the walbro 255 pump in there, but I replaced it with the smaller unit - don't recall which one.

Ok cool, bending...hmmmmm
So am I looking at either cutting that tube that's on top of the 155 pump -OR- removing this pressure dampener?
What are the pros and cons of each?

I did that write up. I removed that piece and never had a problem with the pump. Remove it and cut some fuel hose to fit just like the pix.
U'll be good to go!

I got the "technical" name of the part - it's called a snubber. Here the response I got from a SHO Guru

Its known as a snubber. It helps reduce pulsing in the fuel system. Its
generally not replaced when installing an aftermarket pump as you're
doing.
There is another snubber on the fuel rail, so the one in the fuel tank
is
somewhat redundant. The geroter fuel pumps have pretty smooth delivery
anyway, so its not an issue.

Thanks! I'll hand this info to the shop tomorrow ASAP!
And hey. . . I just noticed something, in that snubber pic, there's a box in the background out of focus that looks awfully familiar :D
