So, i decided to brave the snow today, and take it slow. well that didnt work. a loews truck and i had a nice little kiss. well, the end of a loews truck. my sho is pretty beat up now, my suspension is fine, and as far as i can tell my engine is fine. (it starts and runs fine). but my driver side light, my hood, my bumper, my grill, the radiator, and alot of the front frame is really badly bent and broken.

i was just wondering, i need to fix her, does the sho share any of the normal taurus front frame or light? maybe a hood? basically can i just go to pull-apart, and get some new parts?

if its a Gen2, a Sable hood is almost like a SHO hood, the Sable front fenders are the same as the SHO, the headlights are the same as the Sable, the radiator from a 3.8 Taurus/Sable should work perfectly, the bumper is unique to the SHO.

Correction...the bumper COVER is unique to the SHO. The actual bumper is used throughout the taurus line, including sables (in a gen 2).

the subframe is unique to the SHO...if you need one of those you might have bigger trouble than you can expect to fix in your yard or garage.

Some pictures will help. Get the SHO parts from this forum and the Sable stuff will do if you can buy it cheaply locally. Often the whole car is the cheapest way to buy parts when it is that old, so look in your classifieds. If you use the Sable hood, make sure the attachment points for the lifting struts do not interfere with the DIS module on the intake. Cover the DIS with thin styrofoam and gently close the hood to see if it leaves an indent in the styrofoam.
Otherwise, get your parts and get started.

its a gen 1, its beige, and ill try to post some pics later today.

at first glance, it really only looks like the hood and the headlight, but i have yet to get under the hood and inspect the damage.

gotta admit, my heart broke when this happened.

I definitely feel for you. that really sucks. Make sure to check your radiator support, the bumper(behind the bumper cover), your bumper shock, and inner fender supports.

All the advice is the same for the Gen 1. The bumper cover is the unique part to the SHO. If you graft on the Sable parts, to get the turn signal activated side lights, you have to cut out the window on the Sable bumper (marked out already).... but you need to salvage the brackets and lights from the original SHO. Same for the fog lights.

well, ive got some goods news(ish)

theres no damage to the subframe, or any suspension components. all i need to replace is the hood, the lights and the radiator bracket, the grill, really just the front end stuff. the engine is great.

i dont wanna skimp and get sable parts if i can get reagular taurus stuff.

I don't think you're understanding the advice, the parts for the SHO are the same parts as for the Sable, not Taurus (non SHO Taurus) so if you get Taurus SLO parts for a similar year they won't look right!

I know where there is a gen one of your color ( I think) at a wrecking yard. It's in Oregon, If you are interested, I can go by and take a few pics and send them to you. Or you can just call them> The name of the yard is Bend Auto Wreckers ( Bend Oregon.) If I remember right, the front end is intact, but I can't be certain.

I think you mentioned that you didn't need a rad, so I am guessing that your rad support can be pulled back into position.
If you need a rad support, I believe they are the same from the 86 to 95 Taurus / Sable, and you could buy them new from Rockauto up until a half year ago, so someplaces will still have them new if that is what you want.

I'm just down the road from you in Longview. Replacing the core support is going to be quite a job. It has to be cut off and a new one welded back in. You will need to cut the spot welds, not the rails. Have the rails inspected to make sure they're not pushed in past the crinkles. Since the car was wrecked you might want to look at making sure the car is straight before you weld the new support on, or it will be welded on crooked, which could play merry hob with how everything else bolts back in. I've done this before and it's a huge job; when the car was wrecked again two years later I just parted it out; too much work and money to do again...

My .02.

depending on your future plans for this car, you might just get that rad support straightened enough to allow you to put stuff back together. it won't be too expensive if you take it to a shop and have them just do the pulling (you r/r all the stuff to get to it). I've seen worse stuff than that get straightened enough to be serviceable.
