I have a 2010 Ford Taurus SHO with a build date of 02/2010. I have the Airaid intake installed. I have recently been experiencing some acceleration issues which originated prior to the installation of the intake.. When operating normally (not driving hard) I experience sluggish acceleration from 0-40 MPH. You could say that it is sluggish, definitely being hindered in some way. Also, from a dead stop or a rolling stop the power seems to dye out on me just after initial acceleration. A little scary when making a left hand turn across oncoming traffic not knowing if the car is going to pick back up and make it across. I've almost been T-Bones twice because of that issue.

I took my car into the dealership concerning these issues and told them to check TSB 11-5-3. The tech took it for a test drive and confirmed the sensations that I have described. He said that he "monitored PID Data and found several torque calcu sensors have screwed readings." In person he said that they were 15-20% off. He popped the hood and spotted the good ole Airaid CAI and stated "TSB 10-2-6 states presence of this filter can and will cause drive-ability concerns." The dealership nicely charged me a $100 diagnostics fee and sent me on my way. I did get to chat with David from Airaid and he has not heard of any issues with this intake installed on any EcoBoost platform.

I have reinstalled the factory air box and plan to take it back into the dealership for another look-see. While I was switching that airbox back out I did pop a spark plug out and confirmed that it is part number CYFS-12F-3 which is listed in the TSB 11-5-3. However, because I do not have any DTC's regarding a misfire they will not swap them out. Part of that TSB is to reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration which I think is a big part of my problem.

Any ideas on the spark plug issue? Have any of you gotten the dealership to replace them without having a misfire? I do plan on having the dealer check into TSB 11-5-6 which my vehicle does fall into with regards to a "sluggish acceleration or hesitation feel during a rolling stop..." I have at times heard a faint knock/bump but not always and this issue is not always present. It comes and goes. If I can get them to go through with TSB 11-5-6 it also calls for the reprogramming of the PCM.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Blaine

I just posted this in the TSB 11-5-6 thread:

OK, so I swing by Crown Ford today, show them the TSB and the Service rep kinda scoffs, says my car will need completly re-programmed, tells me that Ford has sent them the upload and that on the first car they did the re-program quit in mid upload and that they have not been able to get the unit back up and the car they were doing is completly dead, the owner has a rental.

Takes my name and number, says he will call me when they are back up, and that a rental will be provided while they have the car. Oh yea, tells me the other Ford dealer in town (Alexander) had the same thing happen days earlier and they are still down too. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Seems funny trying to blame the Airaid intake. Sounds like they were being jerks about it. Since they are a ton of us that have the intake and it hasn't caused any problem for most of us. However, sounds like a reason to be lazy and not really try to fix the problem.

Update: I took it to the dealer this morning with the stock air box installed. Still had some hesitation. I actually got to drive with the tech that would be working on my car during the initial test drive. I talked with him regarding that the TSB's that point to hesitation and sluggish acceleration both call for the PCM to be reprogrammed to the latest calibration software. So, that's what he did. Got the car back and it was instantly better. Not only that but it was better then when I first purchased the car.

I put the Airaid intake back on (quick 10 minute swap job) and SUCCESS!

So to sum things up. First, if you have an Airaid instake (or any other aftermarket intake) and you don't want to have any headaches with the dealer put the stock intake back in. It takes 10-15 minutes. Quick and easy swap.

Second, if you have an earlier manufacture date (mine is 02/2010) and you're experiencing any type of hesitation or sluggish acceleration with or without an aftermarket intake you should just ask the dealer to update the PCM to the latest software.

I don't have airaid but I have experience a very similar problem yesterday. Temps where in the 90's here and my car after was hot. I noticed extremely sluggish and hesitant acceleration. But cleared up once car cooled. But did not like one bit felt very dangerous, hadn't posted cause was the first time I experienced.

Ok, after a long road trip (1200 miles round trip) I can say that the hesitation from a stop or rolling stop seems to be solved. I still have the sluggish acceleration up to about 40 MPH though. Once I hit 40 MPH it takes off.

Any ideas on what I should pursue? I think I will be taking it to a different dealership this time around and hopefully they will be a little bit more knowledgeable and helpful instead of blaming the problem on the Airaid intake.
