Or **** service?

Here's the lowdown timeline.

I've had my SHO for about three months now, and at first, the speedo was fine- no bouncing nervously, and read correct.

About two months ago it started bouncing around from 15-25, and eventually after a couple weeks, up to about 50MPH, then smoothed out after 50MPH but still read right.

A month ago, it started reading high, while still bouncing, at all speeds, but started at 0 MPH just fine, it didn't park high, though. After a few minutes on the highway, it would "snap" back into it, and would read correct on the highway.

Now it just stays high. Reads 85-90 at 70-75, if you tap the dash above the cluster, it will bounce back down momentarily, (until the needle stops dropping) but will then immediately jump back up.

I'll **** the cables, but should I be looking for a new speedo, and if so, has anyone got one? There aren't any on Ebay, and the boneyards out here have none...

Thankx

I believe SHORacer14 told me he had the same problem. His was only for a day or so. It might need lubed, it might be this bitter cold for weeks on end.

I'm going to **** the cable up this week. I took the car out this morning, and it was about 15 degrees warmer today than it has been inabout a month here. It actually got to a balmy 29 degrees! The speedo seemed to be 90% better. Less bouncing, read correct, etc... So, I'll **** it up and cross my fingers.

Also keep in mind that if you put white faces gauges in that this can effect the needles as well if you're not careful. I know you didn't mention that at all, so just take it as an FYI.

If you've worked in the engine bay at all, again you didn't mention it so this is a thought only, it is possible to move the speedo cable around which could cause it to bind. You might consider removing it from the VSS end to make sure that is not the case.

Do you hear any scratching noises in it at all when you're driving? That would be a good indicator that a **** is in order.

I don't really hear any scratching from the cable, but then again, I usually drive with the stereo up to drown out the rattling passenger lock bars that rattle against the inner door metal... :) Anyway, no white gauges, but I'll look at the cable tonight.

Thanks for the info and ideas...

is this scratching noise you speak of also considered a rattle? cause i get a rattle whenever i get up to highway speeds, and my needle is way off, i just disregard it anymore...currently my car is going about 10mph and i'm in my room.
