I have an emerald green 93 ATX with 154,000. I bought this SHO from an older couple about 3 months ago for $1,750. It had new tires with less than 500 miles on them, a 2 month old battery, I also recieved a little over $1,000 in reciepts from the previous owner in misc electrical repairs but some of the reciepts are to fadded to read every detail so I'm not sure what those are for.
Furthermore the sensor on the back drivers side of the manifold looks very new " not sure what it is" and o2 sensors were replaced about 20k ago.
The water pump started going out, leaking from the shaft and was making a racket also the car was running a bit warmer than normal so I changed the pump and flushed the radiator several times. Still runs warmer than it use to. Fan doesent kick on till the needle gets to the N-O on the guage. It use to average in betwen the M-A. T-stat maybe? any suggestions?
Next while trying to take the car for a spin after the fix, it would die once it was put into reverse and trying to back out of the garage, a fter a minute or so we got it to the road and took of "idle was low about 600rpm in gear and stopped" but the car drove and accelerated fine.
I came to the first stop sign and slowed down and the rpm's dropped to 500, the oil light flickered and the car stalled, turned the key and started right up, idled fine in in park "950" as it did in the driveway, put it into drive and back down to maybe 550, took off drives fine but a stall at almost every stop especially if turning the wheel at the same time.
So after a little research I realized I did not reset the idle speed at which point I did it and now its 90% better "idles at 700-800 in gear stopped". I know I probably need to clean the IAB which I will do next but my question is this.
I ran the codes "KOEO" and got 117, 217, 317 and 623. I do get pretty bad fuel mileage.
117= ECT sensor is/was low or grounded, I assume this is one of the culprets of the gas mileage! Possibly why the fan doesent come on till it gets to the N-O?
217=Primary circuit failure - ignition coil 3, which means what? because this is supposed to be a memory code, right? or not? Wouldnt there be a noticable miss or somthing? Car runs very smooth? What symptoms should I notice? NOTE* somtimes the car takes a little longer to start than other times. Possibly the coil pack as stated by the code?
317= cant find any code matching this one?
621=Solenoid/circuit failure - shift solenoid 1? What does this mean? Tranny shifts fine! Sometimes if I let off the gas right when its changing from 1st to 2nd it will shift a little harder than normal but thats all I've ever noticed? What symtoms are there from the 621 code?
Very last today I realized I do have a little oil in the plug wells so soon I will be doing the valve cover gaskets and plug well seals.
Any help or answeres to my questions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!
