I have a knock sensor from a 3.2L V6 SHO engine. It's a two wire sensor. I need a wiring diagram for it. Neither terminal is a ground connection, so I'm guessing one is power and one is signal... but I don't want to put 12 volts to a 5 volt sensor (if that's what it is).
If somebody wanted to tell me the thread pitch, that'd be nice also. One less thing I'd have to do...
Keep reading if you want a little background...
I drive a Subaru WRX, which has a 2.0 liter turbocharged motor (EJ20). The bore size on an EJ20 is 92mm/3.62", which is identical to the bore size of your 3.2L V6. Engine knock reverberates at a certain frequency (and it's harmonics), and that frequency is dictated by bore size. That's why I need a knock sensor (other than the EJ20 OEM knock sensor) designed to sense knock from a motor w/a 92mm bore size (6250Hz).
I'm fairly modified, and for engine management I've gone with an Electromotive TEC3. The TEC3 is desinged to work with a GM knock sensor, but the GM knock sensor that Electromotive sells is not ideal for sensing knock in an EJ20 (just as it would not be ideal for sensing knock in a 3.2L V6 SHO motor). The GM (and EJ20) knock sensor is a one wire sensor.
The EJ20 oem knock sensor doesn't generate enough electromotive force (output) to input to the TEC.
I've poured through the factory service manual for '94 Taurus/Sable/SHO, but I couldn't find any pinouts or wiring diagrams that gave me what I needed...
As an alternative, if anyone knows a GM motor with a 92mm bore, I'd give ya' a dollar! wink
Thanks for the info
