I was at an event yesterday Called Xtreme Drift Circuits at Charlotte Motorspeed way and they split the Venue with NASA.

http://www.nasaproracing.com/

I havent heard much about them but It looked like alot of fun.

Not sure if its a road course exactly or what you would consider this kind of racing, but it was really neat and I think it would be cool if a SHO could get in there! Here is some Footage from yesterday!

You've never heard of NASA?!

Nasa (National Auto Sport Association) is just another club like SCCA.

On a race weekend, there will be HPDE's, Spec Races, Time Trials...etc. Many SHO's and drivers here run with NASA, including Eric Jacobson who has more then a few wins in TTE in his old Bondurant SHO.

NASA focuses on the grassroots racing. The classes and rules are often much more basic(ie: less $$$) and easier to understand than the complex SCCA regs.

I was signed up to run PTA or ST2 in Thunder there, but a close friend of mine (also scheduled to run) suddenly lost his mom late last week (as we were literally both were packing up the trailer/cars, etc) so obviously neither of us went.

I did hear my TTA track record was beaten so I will have to go back next year to try to reclaim it :)

We'll be at Road Atlanta in Aug, sign up if you want to run the SHO in one of the DE groups

A few of us are NASA regulars or admins, so just ask if you need something. Mark is more local to you and has a lot of SHO experience as well as TT, and race experience with NASA.

One of the big draws with NASA is the ladder system, where you can show up with zero experience and a street car that's not falling apart and get lots of track time and instruction to move up to the faster DE groups. Many people are happy to run DE3 or DE4 for their track time, or you can move up from there to Time Trials or Race Group. We also have a Time Attack series sponsored by a local tuner shop (UMS) that anybody can run that's in DE3 or higher. That's another way to get competition experience and we often use people's Time Attack performance as one metric in how well they're progressing if they want to move into TT.

In other words, it's a very good way to progressively learn how to be a good track driver. People don't move up to the next level until they're ready, which helps keeps the faster groups safer and more enjoyable for everybody.

SCCA's star seems to be waning in a lot of places (our local chapter went bankrupt, only the Solo organization is left), and I think one reason is that they never had an effective training system.

Glad to hear you had a good first experience with NASA.

Another NASA member here. I highly recommend to anyone who likes to flog their car should sign up an participate in and HPDE event. You'll get an instructor in the car with you (required initially) and the events are generally a blast. You get food and beer... At the end of the day.

My event in Hastings last month included a ride on the "Bacardi Bus". It's a bus with couches NOT bolted down and the owner of the track pushes the bus around the track as fast as he can while talking on the mic. He may or may not have been drinking.... :)

I agree....since I am in Germany, I was looking at going do to the hockemring or Nuburing but after talking to some of the guys i know that have done it, I think I will wait till I get back to the states and try the NASA route. That gives me time to work on the suspension and the MTX swap before getting out and having fun. Think a V8 SHO with a 5 speed would make for a fun ride.
