I have VERY long-term plans to turbo my '90 3.2 car, and I just found this turbo on my local CL for quite cheap and I'm curious what the general opinion of it is.

Garrett M27
Turbine A/R: 0.63
Compressor A/R: 0.80

Here are the pics:

I'd know the 0.63 turbine A/R is lower than optimal, especially for top-end, but this is going for REALLY cheap. If nothing else, it would just give me something to base my setup on, like a place-holder, until I'm a little more sure of what I'm doing and can decide if I want to spend the dough for something better suited to how I will be using it.

The seller says he replaced it with a different turbo in his car two weeks ago and that everything on it (seals, bearings, WG) is good and there are no problems with it.

Of course, I will look it over before purchasing. If I do, is there anything I should be looking for specifically?

And yes, I've read the How-to guide and I have a basic understanding of the concepts involved with turbocharging the SHO engine.

Thanks in advance.

I'd take to compressor housing off and give it a good once over for anything strange.
both sides are a less than optimal but it will work.

Nah, scratch that... I got him to give me the full model number, and it's a Garrett model # 727264-5001, which is a turbine A/R of 0.50 and a compressor A/R of 0.51 (he even told me it says "A/R -51" on the side of the compressor). The sheet he had with the A/R numbers was apparently for a different turbo. Idiot.

So it's way too small. Thanks anyway.

I wish.

It was from a Mazda MX3 1.6L. He apparently swapped a 2.0L into it and went with a bigger turbo, and that's why he's selling this one.

Check out this link. There are a list of compressor maps and some of these turbos can be found on ebay. Start out with an ebay turbo, and when funds allow, buy a fancy one right?

For looking at the compressor maps, Lbs per hour are the bottom numbers and: 10 times Lbs/hr = horsepower according to an article in Hot Rod magazine.
So 40 lbs/hr = 400 HP. (600 cfm?)

pressure ratio or boost are the vertical numbers:
2.0 pressure ratio = 14.7 psi, 1.5 pressure ratio = 7.4 psi, 1.0 psi = 0 psi

try searching for ebay turbos using: GT42, T04B or T70
